Default Unbranded Q9 - is it HSDPA?

A friend of mine from the UK brought me back a Q9 and I am wondering if it is different from the AT&T Q9 Global. The label on the box says it is a Q9 UMTS GSM850/900/1800/1900. It is black around the sides, not the silver AT&T sells. The box says "GB version".

I know Europe uses 2100 for 3G, but the box clearly says 1900. I am concerned that it says UMTS and not HSDPA...does this mean this Q is slower, or it is really the same Q?

Also, does anyone know what other differences there are between the European version and the AT&T version? I know the US one has GPS and silver around the sides instead of black...are there any other differences?

Thanks,

Jason

Hi,

It is indeed a very different device from the one sold in the US. Aside from the superficial similarities, it is indeed a quad-band GSM device, but the similarities end there. The European version of the Q9h (Q9 Global in Europe) uses the 2100 Mhz band for their 3G, while the US Q9 is using 850/1900 for UMTS.

Also, the European version doesn't have the built-in GPS.

So, while it will work for basic calls and GPRS, you won't be able to avail yourself of 3G speed here in the US.
