Default SMS through Instant Messenger

Has anyone figured out how to sent SMS message's thru a mobile instant messaging program to avoid sms charges. Obviously PC to mobile works, but the PC programs are more robust. I can't seem to add a mobile number to the mobile versions of these programs. Has anyone figured out a way?

You need to get a third-party IM program that uses data (Agile, Imov, IM+, Fring) and then add mobile numbers as contacts to your AIM list in the form of +1xxxxxxxxxx.

you could use something like twitter, but that would involve your contacts also being on twitter. My friends and I are all over the world and we use direct messages via twitter to bypass the sms charges (we all have unlimited data plans). MSN used to have a direct to mobile service where even if you were offline it would reroute your messages to your phone. That would involve your contacts enabling a service rather than you doing something. For verizon I know that I can send emails direct to their phone as sms (xxxxxxxx@verizontext.com or something where the x's represent numbers). Not sure if that AIM suggestion works everywhere, never heard of it myself.

I got it to work the best with IM+, I really didn't realize the built in AIM tools used SMS which is really lame imo. But out of all the options I find IM+ to be laid out the best

Thanks for all the suggestions
