OK, I got the PHM .cab file into the sync folder. Mobiledevice/mobilebaseddevice/My docs.

Opened file manager/mydocs/PHM.cab clicked it which loaded it into the phone. Opened it from the mobile desktop got all the way into sounds and discovered, (1. Ring app tone, 2. Ring out, 3. Ring preview, 4. Ring tone 0,1 and 2).

Using the value button to enter each, shows all above have "All sounds", "File size limit" and "Ringtones" does anyone know which one I alter?

Is it that wm6.1 has all the ringtone options?

This is for Sweetipie. Do not worry. I just did this thing and even for me, a techno klutz. It was all of a thirty second deal. Here is what I did.

1. Downloaded from the web "mobile Registry". Google it and it will show up. It is a free download. I downloaded version 1.1.

2. As this loads to your desktop, simply open it by clicking on "Mobile Registry" file.

3. Look for "HKEY Current USER" and click on it. Look for "Control Panel" and click on it. Then "Sounds". Now...On the center of your screen, you should see something that says either filesizelimit or "Dword". Does not matter which. BELOW this you will see "Data Value" with a number in the box. Mine said 307200. I simply highlighted the number and hit delete. This sets the value to zero.

4. THEN, connect your phone to ActiveSync and then hit the sync command. This syncs your new registry value from the desktop to your phone.

5. Presuming you have downloaded your ringtone, go into where the ringtone is stored, higlight it, then on the menu side of your phone, open menu and go to the first entry, which should be "File" Click it and then I highlighted "copy". Close this. Then go to your "FIle Management" app, "Application Date", "Sounds", and copy your tone there.

If all went well, you can go then to your regular settings, then "Sounds", and check your avialable reigntones. Your new toone should be there.

This all worked fine for me. Sounds like a lot, but in fact it was a two minute process once I got the Mobile Registry program. Hope all of this helps. (Note of course I disclaim any liability for the above. I am not a techie. If I missed any steps, perhaps someone else can chim in.)

dumb question here.. is Total Command an app I can download somewhere, or is it built into the programs... I also have large sized ringtones and would like to override this, but I am an admitted novice Smartphone/Q user... any direction or help would be greatly appreciated...

I got this from Ninjaap and it works pretty good. Be aware that some editors show some but not all the junk on your phone. You may opt to have more than one editor like PHM.

HACKS

Further down the main menu in the software section. Note that if you boo the site you'll find tidbits in nearly all forums. Just make sure that the particular trick is suited for your phone, not all work for all.

If you're new like me, ask for help, the "specific path" to the folder and file and the values to be altered. Many of the people here are well versed in muckling about the phone and eager to help but often presume your just as adept in the registry.

If someone is using PHM and or some other editor and you're on TC you may not find what they're describing. Until I get real comfortable, I write down the original data before changing.

Lastly, one thing I've garnered since getting my phone, there are tons of sites with hack tricks some same, some different.
