Default question about moto q case screen shutoff

I bought leather case for my Q and I was told that when I slip it in the case it automatically shut off the display to save on power... does anyone know this to be true and how this works.

Thanks.... Bob

There are display and backlight timeout settings in the settings menu under power management, but that's not dependant on putting the phone in a case

Some or all Blackberry phones have this feature. I don't know of any other phones that do.

it could possibly from the sunlight detection thing that dims the screen light? so when its in the case, all the light is gone so the phone would auto save. i dont know, im just thinking that, im not even sure if our phones have it.

On the Q9 series, the little LED looking thingy (yes that is the technical term) above the right hand corner of the screen. That is a photo optic sensor, if you have the smart backlight enabled it will dim the backlight if the ambient light is low.

But that's not going to shut the screen off entirely. It just dims the backlight. It will still time out at the normal interval.
