Default Preparing for a Master Reset

In a number of posts, one suggestion is often made: "Do a Master Reset". I have a new (2 weeks old) Q9h which I've been experimenting with. I would like to do a Master Reset, just so I know what effects it will have while I am still under the 30 day warranty (and also because someone suggested it would be a good thing to do to a new phone regardless).

Can anyone suggest what information I need to save/copy off before doing the master reset. One suggestion is to copy the pim.vol file onto my PC (I've done that). What other files or internal settings do I need to save to be able to restore my phone back to full operating capabilities after doing a master reset?

I've seen bits and pieces of information on this, but not a comprehensive list. Does such a list exist anywhere or can anyone post something here?

Thanks in advance,
--- Steve

any pictures you want to save is good
texts or email i suppose...you can use jeyo companion for that
www.jeyo.com

other than that any other files you put on the device you want to save do so...everything will be lost and only the system files will be reinstalled

basically, sprite backup will restore your phone to the exact same condition it was in prior to the reset, that is assuming you have run the program before you reset and save the backup file to a memory card.

master reset wouln't made you lose data such as your email, contacts, calendars, installed programs, etc. It only clear away setting such as recent accessed application, phone history calls, etc.

do a master clear will bring your device back to factory state, meaning all user data will be wiped out totally.

if you want to make a copy of the data, while backup is obviously the most logical thing to do, I am always wary of backing up the entire device which will defeat the purpose of doing a hard reset (or master clear), to eliminate all the possible software conflicts.

What I do is usually ensure my photos and music files are saved in my storage card, and I will then just wiped out my device w/o any backup. My activesync exchange server will do the PIM 'restoration' the next time when I setup the exchange pushmail link.

If there is nothing actually wrong with your phone, then honestly, you don't have any need to do one, and you shouldn't, unless you like wasting your time changing all your settings back.

What you SHOULD do every now and then is restart your phone. Turn it on and off at least once a week or so. Kinda keeps things from doing weird things. Like a PC, it benefits from a restart every now and then.

Yeah but what is the point of master resetting if you are going to restore from a backup?
If the OP is resetting, then everything should be reinstalled from scratch otherwise existing problems will remain, etc.
