Default Outlook overwrote my phone contacts. Can I get them back?

I wasn't able to find an answer to this, so sorry if it's already been addressed elsewhere.

I was excited about using Active Sync with my new Q9h, but then horrified when I saw that it had overwritten my phone contacts with the paltry list from Outlook. All my hard work entering contact data is gone now, replaced by these Outlook contacts.

I would like to find out:

Why did Active Sync overwrite my phone-stored contacts with Outlook contacts without asking?

Is there any way to get my contacts back without manually re-entering?

Well, most likely you had the settings in ActiveSync setup to where items on desktop replace items on device - which is why your phone contacts were replaced with the Outlook contacts.

Don't think there's a way to get them back

I suggest you re-enter them and make a backup copy. Do a search for Sprite Backup.

How annoying. That must be the default because I wouldn't have set it to overwrite manually. I still have my old SIM so I'm going to try putting them back on from it. I saw a thread with a link to a tool that does that I think.

Yeah, here's an app that works great at managing contacts between SIM and phone and vice versa.

how do you set the contacts to override the phone?

I only see an option to choose which computer to sync to under windows mobile device center.

There is an option where it says in the event of a conflict what to do, you can set it to overwrite the device item or desktop item automatically.

This is only when it comes to conflicts, I have NEVER EVER seen the sync overwrite the device like said here, so I am not sure what to say really other than, that's weird.

I forgot to add how to get to that setting, in the WMDC go to "Manage a Partnership" and you will see it, here attached is a screenshot of it.

I thought that was only when setting up new partnerships. I was hoping it was like palm's sync software where you can choose each time what you want to sync and how.

I thought you COULD choose what you want to sync each time. When I go into my ActiveSync (both on my phone and on my comp) you can check/uncheck Calendar, Contacts, Email, etc. that you want to sync.
