Oh yeah, I remember. I used to use it for my Zire 71, then the Treo 650 I had. Good stuff. Why can't MS just take a cue sometimes....

I didn't read the whole thread, and I have a Q9h with Vista and WMDC, so ignore this if it doesn't apply.

Open Active Sync on the phone.
Press the Menu softkey.
Choose Options.
Press the Menu softkey.
Choose Settings.
IF THERE IS A CONFLICT: (set this to what you want to happen).

I think there also might be a setting in Active Sync on the computer (probably buried in menus) about whether to replace on the device, replace on the computer, or synchronize.

I put a test item on my handheld & sync'd. The item disappeared on the handheld. There was no conflict there per se, just a new item.

I'd like to get a sync going where if i put new items in on my desktop and put new items in on my handheld, it will update both so both places have the items. Not one completely take precedence over the other.

Is this a setting i can tweak?

Or am I, likely, missing something right in front of my nose...

Yes, the overwrite is specific to conflicts. Otherwise, it just syncs it and has no problems to decide about. Normal behavior is that no matter what appears new on the desktop and device, it will sync to match both of them.

However, say you put Mr. 123, phone 1234567890, email m123@mail.whatever on your desktop and then you put something like Mr. 123, phone 2345678901, email r123@mail.whatever then it is considered a conflict here and it will ask you to decide, but if yo use the default to overwrite which, then it will do that. Otherwise, Mr. 123 and Mr. 1234 are considered two different items and viola, you get two copies, even if it was a typo.

Active sync only gives you and option to either "replace items on device" or "replace items on desktop" if there is a conflict.

To find these settings: (phone must be synchronized first)
Tools > option > {highlight profile, mine is called Windows PC} > settings

But your situation baffles me, because when I add a new file such as a ring tone or Outlook contact on my phone it automatically updates my PC once synced.
