Panel is each of the rectangles which scroll/slide up or down.
Each
Panel
then consists of a set of commands/shortcuts/actions, which are accessed by scrolling left or right.

These
commands/shortcuts/actions are termed as Pages.

So, we have:

  • Slider: mechanism in which the Panels are made to 'slide' up or down
    • Panel 1: the rectangles which scroll/slide up or down
      • Page 1: set of commands/shortcuts/actions
      • Page 2
      • Page 3
    • Panel 2
    • Panel 3

Thats the sort of thing I was looking for, good times.

Now, where is everyone getting all these panels they put in and stuff ???? Are there pre-made panels or something ????

Can anyone give me some good ideas what to make for a panel? Not sure what all we COULD make with it.

  1. Open CHome - You will be in the CHome Configurator Screen. You will see a list of names such as CClock, CAppointments, CHome etc.. These are the labels for each Panel you have on your phone. Bold Black are the ones you see. Grey ones are hidden - not visible. Use the Show/Hide button to make them visible or hide as the case may be.
  2. Press Menu
  3. Press 3 (for Panel)
  4. Press 1 (for New - we will create a new panel)
  5. Create a new custom panel?
  6. Press Yes
  7. Panel name: This will be the 'label' to your panel as noted in 1. above
  8. Let's give it a name: Panel61
  9. Press OK: You will be taken back to the Panel Label List and you should see your new panel listed in that list. You might have to scroll up or down.
  10. Highlight the new panel - Panel61
  11. Press Menu
  12. Press 3 (for Panel)
  13. Press 3 (for Customize)
  14. You will see a page with greyed out boxes. Dont worry.
  15. Press Menu
  16. Press 3 (for Page)
  17. Press 1 (for New)
  18. Create a New Page?
  19. Press Yes
    1. Page Title: Type in Settings - we will create a shortcut to the 'Settings' menu/application. Will show on the homescreen
    2. Action URL: Here we will use the 'readymade' stuff provided by CHome. With the cursor in the Action URL box...
    3. Press Menu
    4. Press 4 (for Template)
    5. Press 1 (for Application Launcher): you will now go to the list of all the applications on your Q9H - thankfully - in alphabetical order.
    6. Scroll down to 'Settings'
    7. Press OK: You will go to Description page for Settings
    8. Enter a description as you prefer. For now, type in Make Changes
    9. Press OK: This will now take you to the Icons selection page.
    10. Chose the Icon you want to use for Settings or use the Menu to go to your own pics/images if you like (images need to be 48x48 pngs)
    11. Press Select to chose and confirm
    12. Press Done
  20. Back to CHome Configurator Screen with our new Panel61 hightlighted.
  21. Click Menu: Now run through Steps 12 to 19 and create a new page which will launch the game BubbleBreaker.
  22. Now once you are back on CHome Configurator page with Panel 61 highlighted...
  23. Press Show: to make our panel visible on the homescreen. From Grey, it will now show in Black.
  24. Press Menu: and use the 1 and 2 keys to move the Panel61 up or down based on where you want it show on the homescreen.
  25. Once you are done, this next step is important. In order to save the new panels or any changes that you make, you must follow the following steps or else you'll be pulling your hair out, since no changes will be saved or made.
  26. Press Menu
  27. Press 5 (for Exit)
  28. Do you want to save the changes?
  29. Press Yes (DAAH!!)
  30. Ta Daaaaaaaaaa! You're done!
Disclaimer:
This is my first shot at this and those who are already familiar with 6.1 and the slider might see something that needs correcting.
I am no expert and will be looking to learn also.

Hope this is helpful in some way.

I'm sure most of the forum regulars know this, but for the newer members that don't, here's how to add Windows Live Messenger to the Q9h (no, not the sms version from ATT, but Microsoft's version) and add Windows Live to your chome screen:

1) If you currently Windows Live, uninstall it.
2) Using a registry editor, delete the value HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Security/CHome/CWindowsLive/DefaultSettings/Disabled
3) Also delete the value hkey_local_machine/software/microsoft/chome/cwindowslive/disabled
4) Install this version of Windows Live:

Make sure to backup your registry before making any changes.

I have created 3 panels so far:

1. Application launcher -much like Facade - with frequently used programs
2. A contacts Panel that has my most frequently called /SMSed contacts. this even includes their pictures. and if one of them texts me the text shows up in the panel -cool!
3. A web link panel with frequently visited web sites like for sports scores, Stock quotes, etc.

In addition I added some items to the Settings panel and added the NRG mini weather app.

All in all very functional.

The one I linked to includes Windows Live Messenger, the one from Microsoft doesn't because cell carriers request Microsoft remove it so they can use their own and charge texting rates to IM.

You probably figured this out already but the easiest thing I have found is to create my own based on the templates.

The paradigm seems different than the old xml home screen where someone could create one then share it as an xml with what ever plug ins were needed.

With Chome, much of the configuration is actually in the registry, thus making it difficult (impractical) to share the code. Maybe a programmer like you will find a simple and safe way to create panels as registry keys and share that way?

BTW -- Big thanks to you and Verm for this ROM!!!

Ah so. Cool. Thanks.

I guess that is why the file was unavailable from MS for so long.

The one I linked to isn't the most recent version of Windows Live though, it is just the most recent version of Windows Live with Windows Live Messenger that I have found. Even though it is not the most recent version, it still works on my Q9h w/ Windows Mobile 6.1.
