I'm not sure if it uses data... I would assume that it did. I just dont understand why anyone would want to use this feature. You have to pay 99 cents for every song it identifies and what are the guarantees it identifies the song correctly?
I'm sorry..... I am ranting and hijacking your post. From what I've read, the service uses one minute of air time and it appears that you only pay for *correct* identification of the song.

I do believe it will require data. It works by comparing the song you want to it's data base, which is not in your phone. So I assume it's going to access the net.

Well that sux. You have to pay for the identification, then you have to pay for the song itself if you want it? Just ask a friend what the song is called!

This program is the best program on the phone, to be honest. There are some hard to find songs, some songs that everyone can sing but don't know the names to, and so forth.

There are 2 versions. You can either use the internet version, which uses internet I believe. It is based on a subscription. 2.99 gets you unlimited ID's per month.

Then there is the phone version. You dial #43, and you get Ryan Seacrest welcoming you to Music ID. You hold your phone to the speaker, and then it texts you the song name a min later. No internet used. Only applicable minutes.

And yes, you only get billed for correct songs.

So i tried using the app in the phone. I'm assuming thats the internet version. Is there a pay per use rate? Coz it identified a song and I don't have a subscription. I know I can prolly find the answer on att website, but you seem familiar with it already. Thanks.

When you first start using it on the Q Global, AT&T gives you a free 3 day trial. After that, when you use it, you get a page that makes you either sign up, or you can't use it anymore.

I doubt it uses internet service. Well, it might, but I don't see it ever lighting up the data connection symbol. And even if it did, its built into the cost of the service for those who don't have internet. Same with MMS. You can not have internet, and it will use the WAP network to retrieve the media, however, you're not charged for the internet seperately.

There was a .cab file that was floating around a while back.
This .cab file resets the 3 day trail every time you use xm, music id, or mobiTv. So basically you can use them unlimited. AT&T filed a lawsuit against the forum that released the file.
