Default Moto Q9h Working on Rogers System

Thanks to some wonderful knowledge available on the forums (here and elsewhere) I have been able to get my new Moto Q9h working perfectly on the Roger's system (Ontario, Canada). I moved the SIM card from my existing Roger's enabled Motorola V220, downloaded a new Active Sync program from Microsoft and then all worked except access to the Internet and Mail. Thanks to a posting from Lurch3599 I was able to download and install the CAB file for Rogers and away we go!

You will note that my Avatar is now my new Q9h, which if you look closely is on the Roger's web site at the time I snapped the photo.

I am computer literate but in no way a phone techie, so if I can do this, anyone can.

The Q9h is the European GSM Q9, AT&T is also launching the Q9h but will be calling it the Q9 Global. Not sure why since their 3G radio will only work in the US but its still Quad band GSM. Hope that helps.

Just a quick update some months later to let others know that the Moto Q9h is working well on the Rogers System and that I now also have it doing a great job as a handheld GPS unit. I use a HOLUX GPSlim 240 with CoPilot 7. There was a trick to get the three to work together (ask for details if you need them) but once it was up and running it was/is great. The accuracy is much better than I ever expected.

About the GPS program Copilot 7 can the program not just use the internal GPS is the Q9h.

I still like to get a GPS program but what I want is a program that has one CAB for the main application, that I can load the maps on my external 8Gig card and use my Q9h internal GPS.

Someone else mentioned recently (I think it was on Geocaching) that the Q9h also has a built in GPS but I have nothing in the manual to indicate that there is an internal GPS.

Although I purchased my "unlocked" unit in Canada (a company in Quebec) I know it came from Italy, as it was all set up in Italian and the ISPs on the unit were all European. As such, my Moto Q9h may differ from one that is sold in North America only. If there is a way to determine what is fact, please let me know. I know Rogers in Canada has a unit with built in GPS.

Regardless of the case, my review of the situation has informed me that to use the internal GPS from one of the service providers you have to use their plan and pay a fee. I don't pay a penny for using my GPS. I also do not have any restrictions on what software I use for the GPS (i.e. TomTom, CoPilot or whatever). I chose CoPilot because of my need to have actual GPS coordinates and NOT just directions or location on a map. For that reason the Bluetooth Holux unit is good, as I can place it on the monument or grave stone that I am tracking (the Great War Soldier Hunt) and take readings in the vicinity. That is much easier than having to place your whole unit where you want to take the reading. With the weather these past few weeks that is a distinct benefit, leave the GPS unit outside and sit in the warm car taking notes.

I would like to know if my unit does have an internal GPS, if anyone knows how to make that determination. I am not sure what would happen if I then tried to use my internal and external units, but I can see the benefit of using the internal GPS if just using the unit for driving.

Yes it probably has an internal GPS. I have the Q9c (which is basically the same thing as the Q9h) and mine has an internal GPS. In Microsoft Live Search, Trackr!, maybe Google Maps, and other GPS enabled programs, you need to go into the settings area and in the GPS area select "GPS Intermediate Driver", that is the built in GPS driver. Works perfectly too.
