installing ringtone - Motorola Q Forum

i am still a newbie how do i install ringtones and get them to work. I have a shortened song about 25 seconds and i put it into the ringtones folder but can never bring it up later to use. how and where do i put it into the folder and why isnt it coming up the way im doing it?

search for the ring tone limit which you probably need to do.....

Couple of things can be happening.

1. your phone may be locked which will limit you from using your own and forces you to buy from them, totally unethical and bull but.., and you need to either unlock it or hack/patch the registry or XML setting that controls it. As suggested by rudeboy, if you search for it, I am sure you will bump into one. I have an unlocked phone, so I don't know.

2. you may not have your phone configured right or not trying to apply it correctly. Although it "should" appear in the list if its in the folder, just play it or go through the file manager and use the menu to set as ringtone and go from there. NOTE: this requires an unlocked phone and one that is not bastardized by the phone company either.

thank you. i do have the htcunlock does that have anything to do with it? i will mess around see if i can get anything to work thanks

I am not sure if the HTCUnlock is the tool needed for this, its rudeboy's program offer and maybe he can chime in to assist you on that aspect.

As far as anything else, that's all I could think of. If something else hits me, I will let you know but in the mean time, sorry to say you will have to just play with it.

Do us all a favor though, if you get it working and find the solution, could you please come back and post it for us. That way we learn something and in the future some other poor soul can have a solution to use.

It sounds like its over the limit, by try dropping it in just the my documents folder, and seeing if it pops up there.

If its over 300kb and you haven't done the registry hack, then it will not show up as a ringtone, even in the right folder.
