Default IM uses Data plan or Text?

I've been searching for 15 minutes for the answer.
Plain and simple question; Does Yahoo or Windows messenger use the data plan or Text? I have unlimited data plan so obviously would rather not add text or get charged for using it.
Thanks,
Irish

Can I use Yahoo and MSN/Hotmail contacts with this program?
If I go to Yahoo or Live, will their version work with my data plan?
Thanks again.

You can go over to xdadevelopers.com and download the version of Windows Live Messenger that Microsoft originally intended to be used on Windows Mobile phones. Cell phone carriers requested that Microsoft remove it from the operating system because it uses the data plan. The cell phone carriers axed that in a hurry because they want to force you to use their own that uses texting rates.

XDA developers website must be down. I'll look into that though when they get the site up again.
