Default HSPA info from at&t

AT&T said that by the end of next month, its entire 3G wireless data network will be upgraded to HSPA. It will then focus on expanding its 3G footprint from 275 markets to 350 by the end of 2008.

Who here has it all the time? Does it go in and out depending where you are at? Did you have to change out sim cards?

There was a mention of this by someone from Australia in another post. I have not seen the change, my service still teaters on Edge and 3G but that could be the problem the other user was having that their network was set to autodetect and once he manually changed it, he was fine.

Maybe our all knowing friend mexiken can comment without calling everyone a douchebag for not having worked for cell phone companies.

Well I responded to the Australian fellas comment in his post. As far as I know, here in the states, when your phone says 3G, its using either the W-CDMA data side, or HSDPA. I don't belive the phones are set to delineate between the two, in order to not confuse customers. BUT, I could be wrong. I don't know whats actually programmed into the phones, this is just based on my experience. I've been to the first HSDPA tower constructed in the LA market, not with the Q, but with a 3G phone, and it didn't switch to H, so I (and most) don't really know which one you're using, "U" or "H"

And its not about working for the company, its about reading. I took it upon myself to KNOW about the company I worked for, so I read.

This is something that AT&T disables. I have a Blackjack with a hacked WM 6.1 ROM and it shows 3G and H. I believe there is a registry hack to get it to show both.

Care to share this registry hack? Or the 6.1 ROM for that matter?

I downloaded the 6.1 Rom from txcaesar.net but it is only for the Blackjack i607. I will try to find the hack for the 3g notification but it was part of the hacked rom.

Too bad, I have been waiting to get the 6.1 and the hack would be nice if you can extract or find it but no biggie.

Well, I haven't found anything specifically for a Smartphone but this is from an HTC site:

Quote:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\RIL and set EnableHSDPAIcon to 1HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\RIL and set EnableHSDPAIcon to 1
I'm not sure if it works or not. I should get my new Q9h tomorrow so I'll keep you posted if I figure it out.
