You can, if you want. However, if you leave it running this means it's keeping your GPS active so of course it's draining your battery faster. So basically, I would keep it running only when I know I'm going to be using my GPS that day or soon. I shut it down when I'm not using it.

Yes you can but it will drain your battery badly since you're keeping a program open for awhile plus you're keeping the GPS chip active at all times, both of which diminish battery life.

ok, just as I was hoping. No real big harm done, just battery life decreased.

Thanks to all that replied.

Hi Maria,

Did you happen to get GMaps and WLS GPS access out of the box with data package or without data package? With data package it locks on WLS and GMM instantly but as soon as i turn off PCS Vision, GMM just sits on "Acquiring Satellites (0)..". Have you noticed something similar? Also how can i make it work with Garmin Mobile XT? If i can't then i think my money is gone to waste. Thanks.

I recently got Moto 9 global from AT&T and I couldn't get the gps to work with GM or WLS until I installed telenav. I have to run it first for any other gps program to be recognized. Has anyone else seen this?

Yes, I've read that sort of experience. It works out of the box, you just need to follow Maria's steps to make life easier, and help you lock up signal.

You don't need Telenav for GPS to work. You don't even need a SIM card in your phone.

I was mistaken. I removed Telenav last night and did a test. I didn't wait long enough. It took 6 minutes to lock on. I tried the steps from Maria and it went very well. Thanks for the info Maria.

I am also a newbie and just got my Q9h from AT&T last week. However, I started the GPS today and after some delay it latched on to signals and worked without any problem in GoogleMaps. It even works on the third floor of my house.

Not quite as accurate as a Garmin handheld GPS (I drove around with it and about a quarter of the time it showed me off the road). However it is certainly useful and the price is right.

Now I need to figure out how to set some permanent locations such as home.

Can anyone point me to a thread that discusses the options for using the GPS with a free mapping program? I am coming from the Treo Palm world and while I use Windows on computers and I use lots of Garmin devices, this is my first adventure with a Windows based phone.
