Out of all of the Q9 phones, the AT&T variant is the only one to have a strictly sattelite based variant, which is why it takes longer to fix a location than my Q9c. The Q9c uses aGPS, which still does receive sattelite data directly (if it didn't it would continue working indoors)
The way the assist works is that the assistance servers in the towers transmit the ephemeris data to the phone so that it doesn't have to scan the frequencies for all the towers, just the visible ones. hence the faster fix. it also fills in any fragmentary data.
I haven't had any experience with nav4all, was it looking for the GPS on a com port? If so there is a cab file on modaco that enables the GPS to output to Com5 (I believe). The other thing that file does is to keep the receiver on at all times (reducing battery life as well) The problem with nav4all may be that it is looking for a GPS that is not on.

give me about half an hour to get home from work, unless someone posts it first, and I'll either link to it or attach it.

Default GPS Efficasoft

I haven't tried this yet, but support at Efficasoft emailed me when I asked them a GPS question and I got this reply.
Myles

"Thanks for contacting Efficasoft!

And yes! For the Motorola Q9h, you need the MoDaCo COM4 patch and the latest
BETA build of the GPS Utilities – I have attached them both for you!

Please first install the MoDaCo COM4 patch on your phone, restart the phone
after installation.

And then

1. Download v2.0 from http://www.efficasoft.com/gpsutilities.html and
install it on your phone.

2. RENAME the attached GPSUtil.rar to GPSUtil.exe, and copy it to the GPS
Utilities installation directory on your phone. Overwrite the existing file.

3. Launch the GPS Utilities and you get the latest version 2.0.0 Build2525
BETA (the latest unreleased BETA build).

4. Go to GPS Setup, set COM4 and Baud rate 19200. And you are ready to
"Start GPS"!

Please have a try! I’m sure you will find it working!"

mbtrap, thanks for the assist.
the only reason I knew about the com file was That it's needed for Navizon to se the internal GPS (which doesn't pay for CDMA phones right now anyway).

Default Yes the GPS works but does not turn off.

I tried this first, two things wrong, first when you exit GPS the port stays active and does not turn off the GPS reciever (draining the battery). Second at least on my phone the Internet stopped working.
The GPS utility from Microsoft (Microsoft_Smartphone_GPSID_Settings.cab) mentioned earlier in this discussion works on my phone along with Efficasoft GPS.
I hopes this helps, John
PS it seems not drain my battery.

I've been pulling my hair out for a few days trying to get Garmin Mobile XT to work on my Q Global, and I have had no luck at all. When I run Garmin, it does not give me the option to select an intermediate driver. I have installed GPSTest and GPSID. GPSTest loads but will not find any satellites. I have changed the settings of GPSID to those listed in this thread, but I get an "error saving" message. GPS with Google Maps works fine, it just takes awhile to acquire satellites.

My questions are...
1) Do I need to application unlock my phone, and will the instructions found in this link unlock it. http://robertpeloschek.blogspot.com/...r-windows.html

2) Do I need the Com3 activator found in this thread. From the way this thread reads, some people have gotten it to work without the Com3 activator.

and

3) In the Q9c forums, I found a registry hack to enable Com1 for use with GPS, but when I looked at my registry, I did not have the values/strings it said I would find there. Here is the link to the post. http://www.everythingq.com/forum/mot...tml#post173366 Does anyone know if this will work on the Global, and is it necessary?
