On the Q9m, the dialpad isnt necessary - and I'll bet the 9H is the same: when you are dialing a number, hit the Fn key to switch from numers (ALT) to letters (abc) and the phone should do the conversion for you.

I installed Dialpad, not a big program but when some wise corporation gives you a phone number like 1888BestBuy it sure does help.

Here is how I used to dial, 1888 "B" ok ABC must be 1 easy, "E" I guess is 2 now what is "S".....

The quick guide on dialing really helps.

So on your Q9h, if you dial 1-800-callhome (hitting the Fn key to get to the abc) and then hit send, your phone doesn't convert it to the proper numbers?

I find it hard to believe the Q9m can do this, and the Q9h doesn't. Of course your phone is also apparently mission the Unread Message Alert, so I'm beginning to think that Motorola doesn't want to release a phone that does it all ....

Believe the Fn button does nothing for me.

When you are dialing a number, in the upper right corner, you should see "ALT" which means the keypad is in alternate mode and therefore dialing numbers. If you hit the Fn key, does the ALT switch to ABC? Can you then hit keys and see letters displayed on the dial screen? (1800-dialthis).

If so, then hit Send, and the phone should display the number + letters you typed, as well and a second line with the number + number corresponding to the letters you typed.

If the ALT doesn't switch to ABC then I guess that the Q9m truly is different in this aspect ...

Understood but at least on my phone it does not give you a choice.
When dialing it entry mode does not say Alt, ALT, abc, Abc or ABC it is locked into a numeric entry mode.
