Default Can't connect to PC

Argh.. I've been trying for about 5-6 hours now to connect my new AT&T Moto Q9h to my PC, and I haven't had any success. I've got Windows Vista Ultimate x32 and the phone came with Windows Mobile 6.0.

The first thing I did was install the software that came on the disc. I plugged the phone in afterwards assuming it would work, it did not. I've done a lot of internet searching and downloaded and installed the Motorola USB 3.2 (something like that) driver that I hoped would work, it did not. I've reinstalled the adapter from Device Manager, reinstalled WM 6.0, restarted my computer more times than I can possibly count, and it still won't work.

My Q is set to USB Sync, though the option to actually press Sync is grayed out, I think because it's not recognizing the software on my computer.

Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance.

I do, actually, though I disabled the Windows Firewall and my anti-virus somewhere in my struggles.

Right now I've wiped out everything I've done today, and am starting over. Maybe I installed something wrong in the wrong order?

When I first installed the software that came on the disc (WM 6.0), it flies to 99% in about 5 seconds, but then is stuck on 99% for about 5 minutes. Is this normal?

Here's what the Getting Started Guide has to say:

Quote:
1. Install MS Windows Mobile Device Center on your PC.
2. After setup, connect your phone. Drivers will install automatically, then the Sync Setup Wizard automatically starts.
3. Follow the instructions to complete the Wizard. Once the wizard is complete, the items you have selected will be synced.
Ok well everything has gone to plan so far. I guess the wizard has popped up now, but it just says "Please wait for Windows blah blah to start," and it's been like that for a good 5 minutes. I did get a message about Nero Mobile though which is a good sign because I don't recall getting that before. I guess I'll just wait it out.

*sigh* It just hung up at "Please wait for Mobile Device Center to start." I'll probably leave it at that screen before I go to bed, wake up in the morning and see if any progress has been made.

Now when I try to click the icon to start the program, it just comes up and says "Error," haha. Good times.

by chance have you tried to connect without installing the disk software? I just pluged mine in and vista found my device and installed the drivers. Granted, I have not tried to use "active sync" yet..only file transfers and regstry edits.

I think that would work, I mean, my phone does charge from my comp and the adapter appears in the device manager, but how would I put music/contacts and what not on it without Windows Mobile on my PC?

The contacts not sure. Otherwise it should be just a drag and drop or if you have a card reader on the pc use that.

are you by chance using a usb hub?

No, I'm not using a hub.

I switched my phone's USB mode to Mass Storage Device, so I should hopefully be able to drag and drop now. Contacts will have to wait. I also noticed two types of ActiveSyncs.

ActiveSync RINDS or so
ActiveSync Serial

Which one should it be on? Default was ActiveSync RINDS.
