Default Blackberry Connect vs Good Link

Anyone else have experience with Blackberry Connect vs Good Link on the Moto Q9?

My experience so far:

BB Connect Pros:
- faster email delivery
- uses built-in contacts and calendars.
-- let's you use cool things like "Map address"
-- also gives you more calendar views

BB Connect Cons:
- seems to kill the battery
- composing a new email is a pain to lookup addresses (both locally on the device and looking up on the server address book)

Good Pros:
- More flexible views in the inbox
- now is accessible from built-in applications so when composing texts for example, it now looks into the Good Contact list
- Really slick easy way to add email addresses when composing emails.

Good Cons:
- seems to take a long time to get email delivered. 5+ minutes delay in my experience.
- Calendar view sucks and can't be changed. My days are completely booked and I have to scroll through each one to see them. Wish there was an agenda view. Since it uses proprietary database for contacts and calendar, I'm not sure if a 3rd party app could access it. Need to try.

What's everyone else's experience? I'm ready to ditch BB connect and go back simply because of the battery issues. I installed BB connect this morning around 9am and by 5pm the phones shutoff because the battery was so low. I made no phone calls all day.

Ok after spending another day back on Good, it's crystal clear to me that Good is far superior to BB Connect for now. 2 major reasons new today:

1) the battery doesn't drain at all compared to the BB connect and
2) you CAN change the calendar views. I hadn't read the shortcut keys in the help. You can change the views to an agenda view which is perfect!

Also, I was able to tell Good to use the built in dialer and now it appears (even though it's not) that I can use all the built in functions of the dialer/address book.

Default RE good vs BB connect

Glad to hear your beginning to see the value with Good. There are WAY to many advantages with the Good client vs default pocket office apps. If you haven't already check out http://good.com/documentation5/GoodUserGuide.pdf or better yet here's a video that covers all the highlights

Hello,

I just switched companies and my new one only uses blackberry. I had a blackberry in the past and didn't like the phone itself. I am currently using goodlink on a palm treo, and it suits me just fine. I'd rather have the q9 than switch to an all blackberry phone. I guess I just want to know if you think the blackberry connect software solution works well.....? Thanks,

I wouldn't. I'd get a Blackberry. Specifically the Curve.

Blackberry Connect on the Q9 was horrible. It ate the battery and it wasn't well enough integrated.

Since I wrote my last post praising Good, I'd still say that Good is better if you have to use a Windows Mobile device but it's still not integrated enough. It always feels like you’re second class citizen using Good with Windows Mobile vs the Blackberry device experience. Just try sending an MMS message from the Q9 running Good. It will prompt you for an address and only reads from the built-in address book. Of course all your addresses are in the Good DB so you have to copy and paste. It's a real pain.

The Blackberry (much like Mac's) integrates the hardware and software so well it's just a better experience.

Good is close but until it becomes a 1st class citizen of the OS, it's going to be hard to get the full user experience so many Blackberry users get.

Thank you for the response! I have been using a Treo with Goodlink so I'm used to that set up. My new company is Blackberry only and I've read some positive things about Blackberry Connect on the Q9. Did you use Blackberry Connect on the Q9? Does SMS Texting read from your Blackberry Contacts or the Phone Contacts like Good? What would be the biggest pain in using Blackberry Connect on the Q9 vs. a regular Blackberry? Thanks!

Biggest pain is when you use the BB connect and then open the browser... It takes forever to reconnect to the blackberry server, because it gives you the message, "Connection blocked, radio in use". Good messaging is amazing and I invite everyone to give it a try. Get your companies on this!

My experience is that Good receives e-mail faster than my PC. The newest version does allow populate the phone's contact database. The main drawback to their design is that it still maintains it's own contact database so there are double entries. This is not an issue on the PC side but on the phone it continually tries to present it's contact database.

I never used Blackberry but I would say that they are on par and BTW the internet experience are better on Qs.
