AT&T's new Q9h with WM 6.1

The current Q9h can display the GPS status icon with a registry hack.

HKLM\Services\LCAService
Change DisplayIcon from 0 to 1 and restart your phone.

Mine only shows when there's a screen overtop of the homescreen.. at the homescreen, the "GPS" isn't there..

Dope... now I can see the gps status searching for satelites at the top of the screen. When I use GM or MLS.

Hmmm... I wonder if the icon times out and disappears after a while when not using gps?
Update: 3 hours later, icon still there. Guess it doesn't time out.

Yah, it seems to show up only when you're in start menu or in an app. Although, I am currently using GYP HTC Diamond home screen and it shows at the bottom of mine.

Holy crap!!!!!!!!! I tried the hack for the gps icon and now I can no longer select 'use gps' or 'gps settings' in google maps.
What the hell happened? Windows live search wasnt affected, neither was gps test.

Hmmmm.... use gps in google maps still works fine for me. Try power cycling your phone a few times...

Frak!!! False alarm.... I'm an idiot. I had disabled that my location beta thingy..I didnt realize that it also disables access to the gps in google maps.
It would have been nice to realize this before I restored the registry value.

It's from the new Battlestar Galactica series - very good tv by the way - it's their version of the F word and since they are on kid accessible Sci Fi network it's the most they can get away with.
I started using it right after the first season... surprised how many other people share my love of that word.
