Favorite ActiveSync | Modem | Not establishing connections

1. ActiveSync:
- My computer shows the 'Mobile Device' folder as empty
- Desktop ActiveSync shows 'device not connected'
I tried to have ActiveSync look for and connect manually, but did not work.

2. Using Q9H as modem:
I set the phone to connect as a 'Modem'.
I connect the USB cable and the computer finds new hardware etc etc..
But then I get an error message saying the 'Smartphone cannot connect' due to 'fatal error' or something like that.

HELP!

this may also be why you can get active sync to work....
use PDAnet if you want to use the phone as a modem

Default Smartphone USB Modem | Cannot install this hardware

When I try to use my Q9H as a modem, the computer runs through the 'hardware search and install process and then ends with an error message:

Cannot Install this hardware

There was a problem installing this hardware:
SmartPhone Wireless USB Modem
An error occurred during the installation of this hardware.
Fatal Error during installation

What could have caused this? The Q9H worked fine as a modem before.
How do I correct this?

1. ActiveSync:
This is now solved! I removed the ActiveSync from the computer and did a reinstall with the disc that came with the MotoQ. Installed ok and synchronised ok too.

2. MotoQ as Modem:
Not so good luck here.
I still get the 'fatal error' message.
I checked the 'Device manager' and the driver details windows shows that I would need to reinstall drivers.
I tried doing that with the CD that came with the MotoQ. The window shows the files transferring, but then up comes the 'fatal error' message again. I just can't get to install the drivers for the modem.

Anyone have any idea what I should do?

Assuming your objective is to "tether" it to a PC (laptop) for Internet connection, check this thread titled Tethering Moto Q 9H with AT&T.

Thanks GraemeCR:

I have seen that thread before. But the connection, the tethering all worked fine. I had it all setup such that everything worked the way it should.

It's just that all of a sudden, this 'fatal error' nonsense started and that it where I am stuck.

To add to it:

I tried connecting the Q9h/modem via USB to another laptop and it worked fine. Found the hardware, installed the drivers, connected to the internet (-63dBM - 5bars) - all working well.

There's, thus, something obviously wrong with my Windows XPProSP2.

Hoping that someone on Everything Q has encountered the same issue and has been able to solve it.

So its.....

HELP!
