I do not think so.

Active X requires Internet Explorer, non Microsoft browsers see it rightly so a secuirity hole and I think even Microsoft is moving a way from Active X

The only way you can view security cameras from your cellphone is to buy a DVR that supports that. I recently spent 2 weeks researching this EXACT issue. I have found only 2 DVRs that allow remote viewing from a cellphone. Geovision and AvTech. I ended up purchasing the 782 from AvTech. It uses a java program call supervisor or EagleEyes. They both work with my Q9h. I prefer EagleEyes.

Geovison uses its own program called MSView v2. That also worked on my Q9h. Good luck.

be it activex or some other component, main thing is to find out how the video are being streamed/pushed to the client desktop/mobile. if it's rstp streaming, then you can just take note of the address and then use media player to open up (some WM media player may not support rtsp streaming so you may have to acquire streaming software like coreplayer to perform this function)

If you dont mind me asking what is RSTP streaming? Also how can I find out how it is coming to my desktop? The DVR is plugged into my desktop via a usb cable but it is also plugged into my router so I can view it from a remote location.

it's a typo, it should be RTSP, not RSTP. It's just one of the network protocol for video streaming, other common protocol includes HTTP, MMS, etc. I wouldn't go into the technical details (if you are interested, can go to wiki for more information)

essentially when your DVR is plug to your router, I'm pretty sure it's streaming video through the network, using certain protocol (e.g. RTSP) and codec (e.g. 3GP or MP4). So best way to tell, is by connecting remotely from your PC (which is the one you have activeX loaded), and check what's the URL it is accessing in order to display the video. I assume the activeX is windows media activex control, if so, you can just right click on the activex, and check the properties of the media. That'll be the URL you need to use, in your Q9h, to access the security video. Whether your Q9h can open the media (i.e. remote security video) or not, depends on the protocol and codec, and we can discuss what media player you should be using once you have more information about the URL.

Somebody I know has been using media player to access his home security video (I think it's a linksys web camera) remotely over GPRS.So it can be done.
