Sync'd phone then lost info - Motorola Q Forum

Hey guys I have been browsing the forum and tried a search but came up empty. I recently hooked up my phone and let it sync to outlook. Afterwards I noticed it deleted all the contacts I had added in the last month or so. My contact history now lists all ph #'s and no names. WHat gives?

do you use Active Sync or Windows Mobile Device Center ?

Active Sync, it cam with my Office '07 or '08. I can't remember what year it is. (the newest one)

Actually, I don't let the contacts sync between phone & Outlook. They way they interact with each other is buggy at best. If I add a new contact to my phone, I manually add it to Outlook when I get home. It's just not a well written program, IMO. It's too bad Motorola Phone Tools doesn't support the Q's, I could do anything within that program and it would make the corrections to the E815 phone and that's it!
Sorry don't have a good answer for you but I really would be surprised if anyone did. Hope someone proves me wrong here, though.

Is there another way to save my contacts for easy upload to a new Q if needed?

Create an acc't with Yahoo & OTA sync, Dashwire (free) w/ OTA sync but you would have to ask rb if this right, he uses it. I believe Gmail will let you sync for free, too.
I have read where ppl have problems between the Q's and Q9's transferring the pim.vol but man it sure is worth a shot.
Copy your pim.vol (contacts, appt's, etc.) to somewhere else on your Q but preferably on your storage card.
When you get your new phone, name your new phone pim.vol to pim.old. Then after transferring the backed up pim.vol to somewhere on your new phone (or hopefully the "old" card will work) then copy the pim.vol from storage card to where the pim.old is and everything should transfer over.
Then delete pim.old.
I had to do a couple of soft resets (phone off & on) but I think my phone is weird.
Still try to do the OTA sync & there is always Outlook, it might play nice if there isn't anything on your phone for it to mess up.
Clear as mud?

I have had the same problem before, the way I stopped it was simply by un-checking contacts for the sync options and it stopped deleting them. Its a terrible flaw as for people who have tons of contacts with no backup would be completely screwed.
