Question Some applications when minimized are closing on their own

Anyone else have issues with this?
It seems, most noticeably, opera mobile when minimized closes its self, or windows mobile does it. But it sucks cuz I lose the pages I had opened, as well as the files or whatever I was downloading. I am running celetask to manage my taks, but I doubt that has anything to do with it. My coreplayer used to do it as well until I updated to 1.2.2, so I rebooted my phone and opera still does it and it sucks....

And I know I am not accidentally hitting like kill all tasks or something....

Anyone else experience programs closing or disappearing when minimized? Any ideas?

This could be the problem we've been experiencing with the Trackr application. Maybe there's something in Windows Mobile 6 that tells it to kill any App that's been open that long.

Question

interesting....so if i kill that process....i should be alright......but i doubt it is that easy. Care to elaborate? Is there a fix? I wish people would beta test these well....me I would be a good beta tester....at some point I manage to use a large portion of every application in a small period of time....some people are so simple...i like to check stuff out you know...

Windows Mobile does this as a matter of course, trying to manage memory use.

One complaint that I have read about the new iPhone SDK is that it does not support background running tasks - but, what it will do, is save the state of a running app when you switch away and restore the state when you bring it back to the foreground. This is what Palm OS used to do as well.

This is a real problem with WM's automatic memory management - when it kills an app, it does not (unless the app does it) save the state, so that when it is restarted, it brings you back where you were. (Never mind that there is no OS defined exit routine for an app - it must be added by the developer.) Microsoft really needs to work out a way for this to be handled well moving forward.

Hey all,

I have this same issue with Photo Contacts Pro. Any time I do even a few minutes of HEAVY browsing (read: lots of graphics), PCP will end up closing down. PCP runs at 1.4mb in the background, and windows doesn't really like it. It has a "keep from shutting down" option, but it doesn't always protect it. I have contacted the developer - i'll post back...

Thanks,

Matt!

Is there any proof of this, and how long does it take for apps to get killed? I ask because I feel like there's times I've left PIE running for over a day and it was still open. And if it's not using any processing just to stay open, you don't have the state management issues you mention.

You know I wouldn't doubt if pie stays open, its a windows product. So it has to be in the programming or windows propreiting their own software again...but opera will close really quick if I have another large program open and opera is minimized...or not in the main window. Newsbreak will also randomly close, as well as palringo messenger.

Ah, gotcha. That's definitely good to know. Maybe with the improved task manager in 6.1, task management will change (one can hope). It doesn't seem very smart for it to go randomly killing apps running in the background.

Camera or Multimedia

But it is a serious bug that I just noticed....and I don't know whos side it really 100% lies on. But windows is shifty like this, but not necc. on purpose, they just take care of their software....don't blame em I guess

But it is a pain in the ass when I am at work tryin to listen to music, read the news, surf an internet forum or two....and you switch to like the music player to change a song and the fricken broswer is closed and opera mobile starts you over at the home screen...no big deal I guess....tsssss
