I have a constant data connection

My little arrows are always lit up like im transmitting data but im not. after i recieve a email or use the web it never goes away. I'm wondering if this could be eating up my battery life. I check the task manager and no apps are running. Is there a way to manually disconnect data after im finished using a app? I also have Mobipush email installed do you think that could be it? But sometimes its hours between emails and the connection is still there the whole time.
