Had to do a master reset since my phone was nearly bricked (read: likes to twiddle the knobs too much) and this worked like a charm. I was going to try and sync to my work machine but good ol Vista Enterprise with extra tight security means I can't even set up a sync partnership. So I transferred my pim.vol file over to my SD, did the master reset and copied it back after renaming the existing pim.vol to pim.vol.bak, did a soft reset (power cycle) and it sprung back to life with all of my contacts, calendar appts, notes, etc.
