Default Probs with .mac mail on Q

Hello All: Has anyone had any problems sending mail on the Q, I have my .mac account set up right - IMAP4, mail.mac.com (inbox), smtp.mac.com (outgoing). I am able to receive mail without any problems, but when I have a reply or any drafts in my outbox, when I send/receive, I get an error saying I had an error sending/receiving.

Anyone with any thoughts, please help! thanks, Ken

I'm using the same inbox and outbox but I have selected POP3 without any problems. Another thing you might try is to check the box to authenticate on the outgoing server. .Mac requires authentication on the outgoing which might me your problem.

dman:

Thanks for the info. checking the requiring authorization for outgoing mail worked, even in IMAP4. Thanks again for the assistance!

Hiya. Newbie here. I am having the same problem....
SetUp: IMPA4, mail.mac.com (inbox), smtp.mac.com (outgoing) and checked the box to authenticate. I receive mail without any problems, but can't send. Any other ideas?

Try this...
  1. Change your Outgoing Mail Server to smtp.vzwmail.net.
  2. Create a VText.com profile if you do not already have a Verizon Wireless VText.com profile.
  3. The credentials to access the send mail server will be the 10-digit mobile number (used on VText.com) @vzwmail.net (i.e. n This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it ) for the user name. For the password use the password established on www.vtext.com.
  4. Usernames and passwords set up on www.vtext.com may take up to 48 hours before they will work on the Verizon Wireless SMTP server. If your password works on www.vtext.com but not on the smtp.vzwmail.net server, try again in a couple hours.

Cmon', you took the easy way out. Seriously, this is great. I'll add this to the Mac portion of the FAQs.

Thanks.

You just need your incoming, outgoing servers. Usually, mail.domain.edu and smtp.domain.edu. I'm guessing the servers. I'd check with IT for the correct incoming/outgoing servers, login name and your password.

Hi,

I had the same problem trying to set up my work email, but when i switched to the stmp.vzwmail.net, now my error message says i have a problem connecting to my incoming mail server, even though I only switched my outgoing mail server. any suggestions?
