Default .Mac and synced folers

I have been successfully using my US Cellular Motorola Q along with .Mac's email setup using the IMAP format for several months now. I am now dropping Outlook and going to my Macbook full time.

Consequently, I must now address the Q's lack of support for Notes that I use quiet a bit.

I attempted to create a new folder on .Mac called Andys Notes which is setup for email of course. I was then going to just transfer my notes to the body of an email and make the subject the title of my note. I would then just enter in my own email address to complete the email and treat it is a Note. This apparently worked because I could see the folder and the emails on my Macbook.

I then did a send/receive on my Q so I could then see the folder. I then managed folders and set the Andys Notes folder to sync. I then exited and tried send/receive again expecting to see the emails. I have never seen any including after shutting down the Q and turning back on.

Any ideas how to sync the extra folder from .Mac to my Q?

Thanks......

Question, how did you set your .mac mail up on your Q? I can't get mine to work? Did you use active sync or wireless sync? Thanks!

First off....as I understand you have to buy a syncing program for the Macintosh. I only know of Missing Sync from Mark/Space. You can download it directly from their web-site. I have it installed on two other Mac syncing with some old Ipaq's and have had some problems. I have not had any problems though syncing with my Moto Q.

I have been syncing with bluetooth only and have had no problems. It is kind of a pain with the initial Bluetooth pairing setup, but once you are done with that, you don't have to do again.

As far as downloading email directly from .Mac, I found some site via a Google search that will explain it much better than me, but as I recall, it wasn't really that bad.
Goto messaging on your Q
Select any of the existing accounts
Then select the right button for menu
Select Options
Then select New Account
Type in Your Name, Email Address (xyz@mac.com),
Make sure Automatic Setup checkbox is selected
Hit right button for next.
My Moto Q was then able to figure out the port settings, etc on its own from there.
The next screens ask basic questions such as account name (your email address without the @mac.com), passwords, etc.
From what I remember, everything worked from then on. Just remember when you goto messaging on your Q, to select your .mac mail and then use the right button to select send/receive to manually check your email. My US Cellular rep said make sure you don't have the Q automatically check your email because it will quickly wear out your battery.

Hope this helps...

Hey there,

Thanks for the the detailed response I really appreciate it... Yes, I did download MarkSpace and was able to sync my calendar and contacts just fine.

Where I was getting hung up was syncing with my .mac mail on my phone. But the good news is that I got it to work. See the setup is misleading because when it asks for your username I was putting in my username and including the @mac.com at the end of it because that's how the .mac website has you log in. This was only allowing me to receive .mac mail but not send mail from the .mac account. Then I read somewhere on this site that you're not supposed to include '@mac.com' at the end of your username. So I went back in edited my username and took off the @mac.com and everything works wonderfully!

So all is good here, my phone is syncing up just fine with my mac and my macbook pro. Although as you mentioned getting the MarkSpace to work via bluetooth is a pain, so I just use the USB cable, much less hassle.

Thanks again!
