is it pop3, meaning do they allow you to fetch the mail from their mail servers or do you have to login to a web site to read your mail ? (some -like Yahoo- have both ways available, on line reading is free, pop3 costs money)

I am sorry I will explain a little better. I use gmail as my email service. But I download all my mail from gmail to apple's mail program. I would like to know if there is a way I can sync my apple mail to a Moto Q. I have not boght the Moto Q yet I am try to decide between that or a BlackBerry. I am leaning more to the Q though because it seems to have more features that I am looking for except for the fact it runs a Windows OS.

If I am understanding what you mean, the answer may be yes. If your email provider allows it, you can connect as an IMAP account and it can keep all your mail on the server, allowing you to read and make changes, and those changes will also happen on other mail clients. Mine currently connects to an exchange server as IMAP and my gmail account with no issues. I can log on from a computer and still see all the changes I have made from my Q.
