Thinking of switching carriers... - Motorola Q Forum

I'm thinking of switching carriers but I want to keep my Q phone.

I'm currently with Alltel wireless. Although I have no qualms with their customer service (in fact they are great) nor their plan (I absolutely love the all inclusive package with unlimited everything for $90) however, I'm now moving from just in MI on the Toledo outskirts where I have service and into Detroit metro area. Once I'm 10-15 miles into MI I go into roaming which due to it being the Q I get charged $ .99 a minute airtime useage, more for web useage, and then like 5 or 10 cents a text. I just can't deal with that.

So essentually I'm wondering if there is anyway to switch to Sprint Service and keep this phone. I can see the Alltel programming in the phone as files and such, but I'm wondering if I could go somewhere online, use a program, or if someone on here new how to reprogram the phone.

If so I will make the switch... If not I may have to give up the Q which will make me very upset. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

And for the record, so far everyone here is awesome and just the knowledge on this forum is tremendous. I'm still soaking up phone info like a sponge. I'm coming from the oldschool saved by the bell phones to the Q so it's been a big step! LOL!

In order to keep the phone, you may have to get the phone unlocked. I have Sprint as well - good service, just keep track of your billing to be safe. Good luck!

Well I know there is a way to unlock the phone without Alltel doing it. I'm just wondering if anyone here knows how to.

Well here is the good news! I'm not technically roaming!!! They reset my phone and bill to cover my area! I don't care what people say about Alltel... So far they have had the best network, plan and customer service. I have been with every major carrier except Verizon also which I hear is the best but I don't know... It would be tough to beat these guys so far!

Yeah tell me about it... I talked to a friend of mine who did it and he said it's worth the money to just get a new phone! haha! I was like well let me call them and see what they tell me. Sure enough they told me I was golden! Woohooo! lol!

Used to have altel with my very first cell phone about 10 years ago.. very expensive plans, but that was back then..... Don't know what to think about the old arkansas cell phone company now.

I pay $89.99 for unlimited text, multimedia, email, 100% free roaming, 7pm nights, 500 day minutes, and my circle which is unlimited calling to 10 numbers. I'm sure there is other stuff but thats all I cared about.

Well if I did they said that they would have made an exception. Since the reasons I was going to switch are no longer valid, I will be staying with Alltel.
