Default The Search problem

Ok... I'm wondering about the search forum option on here...

Let's say that i'm looking for the gps hack... so i can make my life a tiny bit easier....

I do the othordox thing and search the forums so I won't get lynched by the other users.

So I enter the terms, and I try and search. My search results pop up.

It mostly has nothing to do with what the hell I was looking for.

Then I notice this little line that tells me this...

This term was not used in this search due to it being common term, not correct or something or another....

This makes no sense to me. It should be "smart" enough to combine the words so I can find what I'm looking for. A common search term can be narrowed down by other words included in the search, right?

Am I missing something here?

Just Google search this site. Go to Google and type the following in the search box:

site:everythingq.com "search term or search phrase"

Insert your search term or phrase in the quotes. If you have multiple search terms (as opposed to a multi-word phrase), enter them in multiple quotes like this: "search term 1" "search term 2".

Ok, why doesn't it allow three letter search terms? In this case it would make complete sense.

otherwise im guessing it would locate every thread with the word 'and' 'is' 'a' if it allowed 3 letters or less

for example 'hacks and youtube'

it would find every thread with the word 'and' in it

someone advising a search is hardly being "lynched" in my opinion.. if a members advises a search that most likely means it has been discussed numerous times before.

Couldn't you just do a search for a list of conjunctions and articles like "and" and "the" (I'm sure there are plenty of them) and set it to recognize and omit them, rather than just count the letters? Sounds to me like someone took the easy route and made it less functional.

Just my 2 cents.

I see your point but terms such as in this case and such as windows live search (wls) it would make it more difficult findig what users were seeking. I spent a 10 minutes trying to think up another term besides gps... besides the long version of the term.

But this isn't the first time that search terms have been omited. This has happened to me several times and it's fustrating when it does. I understand that this is sometimes a thankless task being mods and all.... I just think that there might be some improvements on the search aspect on the forum. I will try what has been mentioned in the post....

As for the lynching thing, I was being humorously sarcastic. I do that often. There are many a time that I have seen others redirected. Mostly to do a search....

Hince the problem.
