ringtone quality vs. size - Motorola Q Forum

so not wanting to take up more room, i reduce the quality to 48 kbps. is this pretty standard for ringtones or am i sacrificing too much quality for minimal space saved? i haven't done a comparison of what it would sound like with a higher quality coming from the Q speakers.

I use 48 when I make my ringtones, I found it was the lowest you could use without sacrificing a lot of quality, the Q isn't exactly a Bose system after all.

true, true. just wanted to make sure i wasn't saving meaningless space for a significant decrease in quality or something. thanks for the feedback.

of course if you have a storage card full of mp3's then this whole issue is moot...

but you can't use mp3 files from the storage card as ringtones, can you?

Yes you can. that is where I store all my mp3's. And i use them as my ringtones. It should auto detect the songs. Mine did.

nice. i know on my E815, it wouldn't let you use ringtones or pictures that were placed on the card (instead of the internal drive) as ringtones or user pictures. i'll give that a shot tonight.

fool around and find the lowest bitrate you'd be satisfied with. For example on my older LG VX7000, i found 96kbps worked great.
