Default MLB.com Text and Video Alerts

I am a huge Minnesota Twins fan and cannot allways watch the games due to my busy schedule. I currently subscribe to ESPN text alerts which are free, and quite informative. I was wondering if anyone has signed up for the MLB.com alerts.

According to thier website it costs 3.99 per month. You get alerts after every scoring play and final results. As well as video alerts on big scoring plays, homeruns, and impressive deffensive plays.

Has anyone signed up for this, and how are your impressions of the service?

I think i might just spend the money and get the mlb alerts. The ones from espn have been very unreliable for me. The ones from espn are often late and there are times where I haven't recieved any even if there was a scoring play. I hope the MLB ones are better. I'm going to wait till the first of the month so that I don't have to pay full price for half of April.

I was impulsive and decided to sign up today. I will write a short review in a couple of days.

So here is my little review thus far.

ESPN alerts are useless. This is only because they are so unreliable. They come late or they never come at all. They would be great if they could be more speedy with the delivery, but this is free and you cannot complain too much.

MLB alerts cost 3.99 per month. So far after about 5 games worth of alerts, i have had mixed feelings.

The video alerts are amazing and are worth it just for that. They only show video clips of great defensive plays, large scoring plays, and homeruns for the team you choose. So if the opposing team hits a grand slam, dont expect an alert for that. They video is medium resolution, similar to the quality of video you would get when using the mobile version of youtube. You can expect at least one video alert per game, but in one game against the Indians, i got 5 video alerts.

The actual text alerts are a bit disapointing. They only notify you when someone hits a homerun, lead changes after the 7th inning, and the final score. So think about it. Lets the other team scores a run in the first inning, then the rest of the game there is no more scoring, then the game ends. For this type of game thier is only going to be one alert telling you the final score. Or lets say that the other team is winning by 7 runs, and your team his staging a comeback, you wont know about it because they only send you text alerts for lead changes after the 7th inning.

For 3.99 per month, I would like to see scoring updates after every inning. At least this way you can keep informed of the current state of the game. So in my assessment, i will proabbaly keep them for a while longer just for the video alerts, but the text alerts leave much to be desired.

I used verizon for mobile alerts from the nhl....but alot of times they were a bit delayed or corrections were made. Is verizon's controlled by espn?
