I had the same problem once, but with one line. My wife's friend needed a cell phone and we never use all of our minutes (have like 8k Rollover right now). We added her under the agreement that she would use $9.99 line and pay that a month and she could dip into the pool for free.

Well she paid the bill the first two months, then not so much. A year into the contract she Married a loser and moved to Arkansas, but we made sure we got the phone and sim from her before she moved.

Now I just ate the 9.99 a month for 12 months as it was less than the termination fee, but not by much.

The gentleman who rents my guest room recently divorced and was with Cingular at the time, he called them and explained the divorce and they were able to make some kind of arrangement. I think they waived the termination fee when he just transferred the line to a new 2 year contract.

But if you are wanting to change carriers as well, I bet they will be less amicable.

If intent on switching, I would look into SERO. Do some reading here: http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?t=563252

may also give a sprint sales rep a call, I've heard they sometime help with switching over by covering termination fees providing you were a good verizon customer

Plus I remember reading a post on here to look into their coverage area and if they don't/can't provide coverage they are more willing to let you out of a contract. (Lie your little b*tt off!) That one stuck in my brain b/c I may have to use it someday myself.
I really hope 2008 is a better year for you, my friend!

I was thinking that too..my mom just moved to this little hick town (rare in iowa i know) about 10 miles away and i was thinking about calling vz on her behalf and being like, well service does not work here, did the *228 option 2, and reset and still no service....she has a q as well so i could be like well neither one of us get service here and we need it for business purposes....

Just remember to be nice to the CSR. Sometimes a little kindness and they will bend over backwards to give you what you want. When your primary job function is to deal with pissed off people al day it means a lot when a few of them are nice.

If you can speak for your Mom also bring into play about her being a Doctor (they don't have to know exactly what kind of doctor, leave it to their imagination), and that it is very important that she have a reliable service where she is, period! A little friendly shove doesn't hurt anyone or anything.
