Default Backup Software for laptops

Hey Guys:

A couple of weeks ago my hard drive failed and I had to order a new one from Dell. Well While I was at it I got another one from BestBuy (Same size 320GB) since my laptop has a chassis for two HDD's.

Well long story short after going through that nonsense I would like to get some sort of backup software for my laptop. I have that Dell 10GB of Data Storage, but that's not gonna help. I want to make a disc images of my HDD's to make it easier to reinstall my OS without have to use all 4 of the Dell installation disc. Something that can fit on either a Dual layer DVD or Blu-ray DVD (since I have that option). The Toshiba (that I also have) has RAM Disc Images for reinstalling the OS and they only take about 2hrs compared to all day with Dell.

What's the best way to do it?

That's what I figured too.

I should be able to make a bootable disc that will recover my OS and programs with this right?

Another vote for Ghost. I backup to DVD's plus do incremental backups to a Western Digital 160 gig Passport drive. While doing an incremental backup, it takes less than 5 minutes and my backup is up to date.

I use freeware called cobian 8. great for backing up, but doesn't create a disk image.

Cool. I'm going with Ghost then. I assume its pretty easy to use. I have a bunch of 8.5GB disc I'm not using right now.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Hey RB:

I trying out Norton Ghost 14 (got a copy from my friend). Everytime I time try to do a backup to my External HDD or to a Dual Layer DVD, I get a error saying "The connection to the recovery agent was lost. This window will close."

Then I reestablish the connection like it tells me too and does the samething again.

Any ideas?

I found this after a fast search...https://forums.symantec.com/syment/b...=1867Basically what it is saying is create a new folder where you have the backup and try that. Hope this helps, if not we'll dig deeper...

Thanks Geekster!

I did that to begin with so I would know where the backup file is and its still not working.

Any other ideas? I've also gotten erro messages saying it cant reach the service agent. So I hook it up to my wifi at home and it still didnt work.
