Yes, it does support different resolutions. I forgot where, but I read there are 10,000 improvements. Even if only a fraction are important, this is a major release.

Seeing both releases are new, I wonder if Sprint will offer the Q with WM6 at some point?...

i dunno...thats a good question...it would come down to motorola shipping the Q to sprint with it preinstalled...which i assume would happen...and i can almost gaurantee that the UT Starcom 6800 will have WM6...i heard rumors of it having 5.0 but i doubt that'll happen

my question is...can you upgrade the q to have WM6?

Currently none of us know if any carrier is going to offer a software upgrade from WM 5.0 to WM 6.0. While I personally believe it will happen do to all the software issues people are having, you never know. For one this is Microsoft, and they want all the money they can get. And second, the carrier is going to want more money to improve and built new technologies. I guess we are all in the same boat, sitting on the edge of our seat, waiting for an answer.

I doubt a carrier would do an OS upgrade. Someone like VZW would probably want to peddle a new version of the Q entirely with WM6, maybe they'd market it as the Q6 or something like that. It's probably cheaper and easier and more profitable for Sprint or VZW to sell you a new Q, a new 2-year contract than wasting tech's time with upgrading WM.

And I wouldn't put it past a carrier for saying a new Q version would be "optimized" for WM6, lol.

I think they will be smarter then that. A lot of people switched to the Q, and are unhappy. By denying majority of those who switched the option to make their phone better could quickly and easily drive away business. Even IF that is true, as long as someone can get ahold of the image of WM 6, there are more then talented enough programmers out there to develop and port WM 6. While it will more then likely void the warrant, it will probably be something I am more then willing to do.

I forsee the current Sprint and Verizon Q's getting an upgrade to WM6. But I maybe wrong. All that is really needed to be done is new drivers for the radio (CDMA) since the GSM Q is coming with WM6 pre-installed. I could be way off but they already had it just a few simple changes and there you go we can now run WM6 its just waiting on the careers to give the go ahead.

Don't blame Microsoft if your device doesn't get an upgrade. For non-phone devices, the OEM is the decision maker on whether or not an upgrade is released. For phone devices, both the OEM and the carrier have to decide (usually the OEM decides and the carrier has to certify it).

Default Carrier Upgrades

Sure, the carrier would probably prefer you to buy a new device. However, given how many people probably are in the middle of contracts and probably don't want to pay full price for an upgrade device, they do release upgrades.

Specifically, I know that Verizon has released upgrades for various Samsung devices (the i700 WM 2003 upgrade comes to mind, although it took a long time).

And look at the Q. We've already had two software updates (but not OS upgrades). I know some people have bricked their Qs doing an update, but Motorola and/or Verizon must have thought it was worthwhile taking the risk.

That's not to say the Q will get an upgrade, of course, but there is hope.
