@ OP
Where do you feel the direction of the smartphone should go? Taking into account buisness and personal needs what major OS platforn woukd you think best suits the smartphone? Windows, linux, Mac...

Most home PC's run some version of Windows, as do many companys. Therefore why not build on the progress made by providing feedback to the developers.

The Q itself is a powerful device considering where technology was just a few short years ago. I remember installing windows from 30+ floppy disks on a PC with less computing power.

You're absolutely right. Don't we have to keep in mind that this computer, and its operating system, are in a device that fits in our pockets and -- oh -- by the way, allows us to call people!

The Q is truly an amazing device. I'm a guy who, in the '80's, owned the first Motorola 8000 (a/k/a the brick) and paid ~ 3 grand for it!

I now have a Q that cost me nothing to obtain (even from VZW), allows me to get and reply to emails pretty painlessly, and puts my office calendar in my pocket. And, did I mention, I can talk to people?

Let's get a grip.

i am happy to have my phone. I use it more than my pc at this point.

It seems the op is frustrated...been there got over it though not much use getting revved up about it. We make choices about whatto spend our money on. Although mine was a gift...it is what I asked for :-)

This is an interesting thread.

I don't believe that the Smart Phones would have the chance to expand beyond a Simple Calendar/email system if windows hadn't jumped on board. I don't think that something like Facade would have been developed, I don't think the customizability would have come up. I've developed well over 100 homescreens and each one is individualy unique. And that's just me.

IT's a phone, in my pocket, that does more than the first computer I bought out of college. I'm simply amazed at what it can do.

Now, as for the iPhone being unmodifiable, it certainly isn't. My friend has a Level in his. Yes, as in hold it ontop of a picture on the wall and straighten it so it's flat. He's modified his interface, added programs, deleted core functions and it's a fantastic phone. It does things the Q should envy. However, my Q does things his iPhone simply can't.

I've never used a Blackberry. I've never used a Palm OS device at all. I debated it at one point and instead bought a Compaq PDA, with a dumbed down version of windows on it. Horrible machine. 3 years later, I have this Q and it is leaps and bounds beyond what I've seen other PDAs do.

So my thought on the original posters theory that "windows needs to get out of the smart phone business or it'll kill it", is absolutely incorrect. I think its exactly the opposite. If RIM didn't have the iPhone or WM to compete against, the progress would be amazingly slow.

The drive behind these machines is Businesses generating a need for it, the manufacturer building the equipment and OS's that can utilize it.

Sensitive group on here.

My whole point was not to "complain" but to simply state my personal view that WM is holding back the potential of smartphones. That's it. If voicing personal views is not tolerated on this board than so be it. Frankly, I have never understood why people in these forums are so willing to stick up for the phone makers and MSFT, no matter the evidence.

And I must say I have a very hard time believing the people on here that claim they never have to reboot the phone. I'm on my THIRD Q and had two Treos before this and each and every single one of them required restarting the phone on a fairly regular basis and/or going into the task manager to "kill" running programs. I've done all the tweak/hacks imaginable to try to correct this issue but there is just so much that can be done. All of my coworkers that have these devices get the same thing. And the crux of the problem is that WM is bloatware and the device makers continue to try to get away with providing the barebones horsepower required to run it.

If people's opinions weren't tolerated here, your post would have been deleted by now.

Its important to have the discussion, but if you are willing to rant your opinions on WM or the Q in the presence of a group of Q loyalists, you must also be prepare for the tolerated backlash.

I have liked both devices that I have used with WM on them, namely the Blackjack and Q9h. I am not going to claim that I have never had to reboot. My phone has froze. I have had to pull the battery. I have had to go in and kill apps.

On my computers (Linux, Windows, Novell, HP, Dell, Compaq, self built, this list could be long), I have to completely format and migrate backups about every 3 to 6 months due to how I use them.

The point is this, you can have your opinion, and that is all any of us have as I don't think anyone has access to the WM source or the Q engineering diagrams. Just be ready for the lash of opinion from a group of people who actually like their device.

If you were looking for outright support, you chose the wrong place.

I don't know about anyone else but your posts sound like a whole lot of complaining. could be just me and maybe I'm using some weird dictionary but your rants are the epitome of complaints.
