| Dieter over at WMExperts did a quick write up on the Samsung shown above. As I suspected from the video, this phone is UI challenged. |

I honestly feel that the smartphone is evolving into something that the average user is interested in purchasing (as opposed to just business people, who have been the main target demographic up untill recently.) and therefore, we are going to see some major improvements in the entertainment value of our mobile phones which is definantly not a bad thing.
Regardless, I am sure that there will still be a very heavy emphasis put on making sure that WM7 devices perform in way that they are even more usefull to business users, so I don't think you have anything real to worry about, but you do have soime fancy new toys to look forward to. | I agree with you that they're not so much targeted for just business people. If someone wants a phone for just business, just get a BB. Before i had the Q i had an 8703e, which wasn't a bad phone, but there are a lot more things to do and to put on the Q then there was for the BB. I also do agree that they will be putting more things on the smart phones that will be more for entertainment, which again that's wonderful. Think about it, with the iphone out and all that it's able to do, these other companies have to make their phones do more to keep sells up. It's nice to be able to have music and etc on the phone. It beats having to carry two things around, hense that's why i got a smart phone in the first place, so i wouldn't have to carry around a pocket pc and a cell. |

Well, it's still too limited for me---I rely on Icons and color themes to keep up with which appointments are going forward, which have been cancelled (b/c I still need to know when they were sheduled for), which appointments I've got someone else handling, etc. I have no idea how my life got this complicated!
(Didn't mean to hijack the thread, BTW...) |

| I agree with Chris. The competition is making all phones better. For me, it was between the Q and the Blackberry Pearl. I ultimately decided to go with the Q because there are no good third party apps to handle media on the Blackberrys (I don't listen to a lot of music; more podcasts and audiobooks).
And, while the Windows platform won this round, third party apps are springing up like crazy for Blackberry.
Also, memory and battery life have a lot to do with the evolution of the smartphone as well. Sandisk announced a 12GB microSD card at the CES and said a 16GB would probably be released at the end of the year. With that kind of room, of course consumers more inclined to make their phone their movie/mp3 player. Super powerful batteries, phones finally have what it takes to go the distance. |

| i suppose it will help the overall user experience of the phone/pda, but I am pretty sure MS recognise and retain the features that are of importance to business users like you and me, such as qwerty.
Which I think Apple iphone is just a all hype but nothing ipod that tries to add a phone dialer and sim card holder. I had a chance to play with it for a few hours, I have to say it doesn't even pass the basic requirements of messaging, let alone business usage.
Either the apple camp are rich kids who don't mind splurging close to a thousand on an media player (then why not just get ipod, not that it's any better, but at least its a couple of hundred cheaper?!), or they really have no clue what mobility means to them (that it's just a phone dialer??)
enough of rant. lol |

| Raising the thread I have played with the iPhone and was thoroughly unimpressed. I see it the same way I see apple products in general, Dumbed down for the ignorant masses to the point that it becomes unusable for the technically inclined. The simplicity is what sells that phone. While that is not at all a bad thing, the end user ultimately suffers due to limited expansion of features, software and personalization. Most are just not able to see it. But then again, if most of the population cared about all of that, they would be reading this thread on their Q9c. |

| Out of the box it's pretty crippled but a jailbroken iphone can do quite a bit. I still prefer a physical qwerty keyboard on my phone though. |
