Default HT820 sound quality poor when listening to MP3's

Hello everyone.

I just picked up a pair of HT820's last night and got them paired with my Q quite easily.

The problem I have is that when I listen to MP3's using Windows Media Player on my phone, the audio quality is TERRIBLE. The audio breaks up, sounds distant and is hard to hear. I've heard this is pretty much the norm for standard bluetooth stereo connections while doing my research AFTER my purchase.

Then I discovered that the Q supports A2DP as does the HT820. Apparently this feature isn't enabled on my phone/headset by default. I've scoured the internet and my documentation to find out how to enable this feature but nothing seems to mention it.

Are my head phone defective? Am I missing something in the setup?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

My HT820's paired for both profiles. When I paired it for Hands Free, the Q said that it supported Stereo Headphones and asked if I wanted to pair for that profile as well. If you aren't using the Stereo Bluetooth profile, then sound quality will suck.

Check the Bluetooth Manager and see if you are showing a connection under Stereo Headphones. If you aren't, then highlight the HT820's and press connect. IF the HT820's aren't listed, try adding them.

Delete your original pairing and re-pair with the headphones by starting in the Bluetooth manager-->Stereo Headset dialog. Hopefully this time it will "take." You'lll have no doubt when you've got it paired correctly - the sound is a very nice, rich, stereo sound with little to no background noise.

Yup, that did it. It's not very loud, but it's MUCH better now.

I still notice a little skip when it goes from one song in my play list to another, but it's totally usable now. I'm quite happy!

Thanks for the help guys.

Other users have complained about WMP skipping in songs. I have been using Pocket Player for over a month. I have also been helping Conduits as a beta tester. So far they've fixed the AVRCP support with a plugin, corrected problems with the Q's implementation of the scroll wheel (coming in v2.81 shortly), improved library browsing functions, and added more podcast features (like auto-resume for large tracks). Hands-down I think it is the best MP3 Player for the Q.

Remember, if you download Pocket Player, make sure that you download the WM5 AVRCP plugin.

Not sure what your definition of "loud" is, but make sure you have the headphone volume and the phone volume (press and hold scroll wheel until dialog pops up, adjust with wheel) turned up.

As for the skipping, I agree - WMP is an inferior product. SDMahan's suggestion is a great alternative. Another choice, for free, is TCPMP, but it's more Spartan than Pocket Player.

With the latest version of WMP included with the OS path, I don't use TCPMP for audio, just movies. WMP doesn't skip anymore and you can also use the audio enhancement application to boost the sound level.
