My only problem with BT DUN and pdanet is, despite having it working in linux and windows, I cannot get above 160kb/s while I can get over 800kb/s with usb connection.

I understand this is more a limitation of the BT driver... is there a hack to get around this?

Hi there! This is not a limitation of the BT driver, but rather a limitation
with BlueTooth 1.2 (which is what is implemented in the Moto Q). Newer
phones are now implementing BlueTooth 2.0 which allows for data rates
of up to 2.1Mbps I believe, whereas the old 1.0->1.2 only allows up to
721kbps. This is why you'll always get faster USB tether rates. As a side note the new Motorola KRZR uses 2.0.

Enjoy,
Mike

Yes, I understand the bandwidth limitation with 1.2, however, 721 kbps is significantly higher than 160kbps. That's what I am maxing out on currently.

Well if it helps at all, remember that 721kbps is raw data speed.
There is packet overhead associated with Bluetooth (or any other
transmission protocol) so you'll *never* get 721kbps. I recall on
my old Treo 700p and my MacBook Pro I got like 400kbps through
BT, but easily got the 1.5Mbps through USB. I agree that 160kbps
is still too low. I'm not sure if tethering via Bluetooth is practical as
the power drain to accomplish less (i.e. bandwidth) is just not worth
dumping the cord. Personally I ran out and got the new EX720 EVDO
Expresscard for my Mac... though I'm now paying a lot for data on
my Mac and my Q... oh well..

Take care,
Mike

yes, but i am doing this in linux, which is apparently the only way to use pdanet(through BT) as the usb connection requires some software and not straight DUN.

if they enabled DUN with pdanet for usb, i could do that.

Just wondering if you're using a sprint Q and if so...how were you able to enable BT DUN? Are you connecting to BT through activesync and then to PDAnet or really connecting straight to BT DUN then PDAnet. I'd like to give it a shot and see what kind of speeds I can get.
