I cant imagine Vzw would know what exactly is establishing the connection to their network. They can probably detect the network usage rather easily and can be notified of extreme usage and investigate to that end but to say they know if it was my Agile Messenger or IE or any other Phone app or if it was PDAnet/DUN hack i doubt they could easily know.
All the programs use the same network device to establish the initial connection. Usage is the key. I assume tethering would create a higher usage in the networking and would be unwise to maintain a constant connection.
My view is that VZW is screwing people by not allowing it. I will use it in emergency cases only and hedge my bets. 15 a month is a rediculous charge and is excess for the value. Comparing to other wireless providers dataplans, VZW is easily the most expensive. Why they keep adding charges is beyond me.
Prove to me what extra burden is added to Verizon's EVDO for tethering and I might be convinced otherwise. Im currently not convinced and I would imagine lawsuits may follow if they continue down the road of excess and needless fees for no additional service (as we know, this is not a service, but a capability of the phone).
If abuse is taking place, then punish the abuser, not the whole user base. |
