I cant imagine Vzw would know what exactly is establishing the connection to their network. They can probably detect the network usage rather easily and can be notified of extreme usage and investigate to that end but to say they know if it was my Agile Messenger or IE or any other Phone app or if it was PDAnet/DUN hack i doubt they could easily know.

All the programs use the same network device to establish the initial connection. Usage is the key. I assume tethering would create a higher usage in the networking and would be unwise to maintain a constant connection.

My view is that VZW is screwing people by not allowing it. I will use it in emergency cases only and hedge my bets. 15 a month is a rediculous charge and is excess for the value. Comparing to other wireless providers dataplans, VZW is easily the most expensive. Why they keep adding charges is beyond me.

Prove to me what extra burden is added to Verizon's EVDO for tethering and I might be convinced otherwise. Im currently not convinced and I would imagine lawsuits may follow if they continue down the road of excess and needless fees for no additional service (as we know, this is not a service, but a capability of the phone).

If abuse is taking place, then punish the abuser, not the whole user base.

I just tried doing this and I can't get my Q to enable the Dial Up Networking option after dialing ##342587. Am I doing something wrong? Is my phone not capable of turning Dial Up Networking on?

It only works if you have the original firmware release. Upgraded and late model phones don't have it.

That last post kinda answers a post I had made just a lil while earlier. So I propose to you this: is there any known way one could "downgrade" the firmware on their Q by downloading an earlier version from somewhere?

I aggree an extra $15/mo is excessive for tethering but I decided to suck it up and do it since this way I can connect to any BT-enabled laptop and surf. Heh...at least in theory anyway. But so far have had success with a MacBook (with frequent connection drops) HP, Acer, and Toshiba. Can't do that with the PDAnet and USB solutions without driver installs.

For what it's worth I did complain to the CSR about the tethering surcharge and he said he "understood". Yeah, right. Well, I sure hope pyrobling has some new data plan info coming up soon concerning these excessive surcharges.

BTW, Sprint's new WiMax service (2-4 Mbs) will be $55/mo from I've read.

Default Doesn't work with Verizon?

I'm wondering...does this work for other folks with Verizon? Did they wise up and disable this at some point?

Does what work?? BT DUN doesn't work. vzw tethering works. PDAnet works over cable or BT but requires a PC with Activesync.

Default Install Cab File

I know this is a crazy question. I'm not as technically-minded as I should be. Here it is: Where do you install the CAB file? (see I told you) In the PC or in the Q? I would really like to get this to work. I have a Q and Bluetooth in laptop.
Thanks for your help.
