Default Bluetooth PCMIA instead of USB

I bought a bluetooth PCMIA card for my laptop instead of a USB dongle because the dongle gets in the way of various docking stations I use with my laptop. I want my Q and laptop to sync automatically or at least at regular intervals but I cannot get either.

The only way I can synch my Q and laptop via bluetooth PCMIA is to physically run ActiveSynch on my Q. This is not very automatic.

Alternately, I tried thought I could schdule syncs to run automatically at regular intervals. The schedule option is dimmed out in ActiveSync on both my Q and my laptop. I am running the most current versions of both too.

Finally, I cannot seem to manually transfer files from laptop to Q using bluetooth. I still have to plug in that stupid USB cable each time I want to transfer a file.

I've searched high and low in these FAQs and forums, in Microsoft's ActiveSync Forums and Faq, and generally on via Google but, so far, I appear to be the only person in the world using bluetooth PCMIA with the Q.

Any help?

jaja714,

I have had many bluetooth phones from Verizon and have researched a great deal on smartphones (including the Q as well) and have found this:
Verizon Wireless has disabled the OBEX profile for Bluetooth on all their phones, including Smartphones/ PDA phones.
Explanation: Bluetooth capability on all wireless devices has different profiles that it uses to classify what type of Bluetooth connection you have. DUN (dial-up networking) is a profile that allows you to use your Bluetooth connection as a wireless connection to the internet with your laptop. There are other profiles for headsets, cars, etc, etc. OBEX stands for OBject EXchange. This profile enables you to transfer data files wirelessly to another device from your Q, or vice versa. However, Verizon Wireless has disabled that profile because they want to make it much harder for users to download their music, ringtones, etc and then send them to everyone else they know (because then they lose money). It is stupid, but this is a battle that has been going on since the Moto V710 came out. Anyway, the easiest way that I have found to transfer files is through email or via the miniSD card. A USB SD card reader and miniSD to SC card adapter work as a pretty seemless way to transfer files, though it is extra time and hardware to deal with. Anyway, I hope this response was helpful to you and anyone else that reads this. Have a blessed day!

Yes, I'm familiar with the V710 problems as I was one of the class action plaintiffs.

Let's forget about file transfer for now as I can always use the supplied cable for file transfers if need be.

The problem I'm most concerned with is the automatic sync. I don't want to have to remember all the time to initiate the sync from the Q. I want it to be triggered automatically or I at least want the ability to schedule the synchs.

Does anyone know how to automate ActiveSync via bluetooth?

I have had the same problem in the past with all my WM2003 and WM5 devices (SP3i, JAM, KJam). Bluetooth sync works fine, but you have to initiate it from the device. I've never had a huge problem with it because I have always synced OTA with an Exchange server or IMAP account.

I haven't seen automatic Activesync initiation on a Windows-based PDA since the PPC2002 version. Ever since PPC2003 I've had to initiate the Activesync myself. Have you experienced otherwise? I miss that capability.

Whoa - conspiracy theory alert. Verizon disables a BT capability that is already readily available via the provided USB cable? Those ingenius, sinister bastages!
