Desktop software bluetooth headsets

To All: This is my first post...

I have an older Moto Q, perhaps the original model, I am not sure. The reason I am posting is to provide my opinion on some bluetooth headsets I have recently tried.

I am in sales, hence on the road all the time. I love making calls on the go and so I have been searching for the "just right" bluetooth headset. The original one I tried was an older model Sony Ericsson HBH model. Anyone considering one of these BE AWARE... Sony headsets are not always compatible with the q. The particular one I was using would not stay paired after a call, causing me to have to reconnect after every call.

Second, I recently tried the new Blueant Z9 headset. It is supposed to be one of the best, recently developed accesories you can get. BS. I payed over $100 and it has some problems. The sound is not loud enough when used with a q, also voice recognition works, but not perfect; and if you press send on the q, say scrolling through your contacts list, or BCM list for that matter, it does not always transfer the call to the headset. Sometimes it isn't on the phone either, which can be a bit of a hassle. I updated all the software for both the Z9 and the q and to no avail.

So what did I do? I went back and bought another model to try. This time I chose the less pricy Jabra 8040. WOW! what a difference! You guys listen up, seriously, I hate those hooks that so many headsets require using for a snug fit. I don't like leaning over and feeling the headset hang halfway out of my ear. Well this Jabra requires no hook, it doesn't even have a hook included as an option. Let me say this, it is the most secure headset I have ever worn, the fit is similar to the squishy earphones for an MP3 player, you know, the ones that fit moderately deep into your ear that don't jiggle around. Also, I tested the sound quaity, I mean that is what matters most, as long as the thing stays in your ear. The sound quality and clarity of the Jabra far exceeds that of the Z9 or Sony. My conversatees immidiately noticed a very large difference between the Jabra and other models I tried.

I strongly recommend this model to all who are bluetooth enthusaists, or to those who are just beginning to try them out. Don't be scared of the $79.99 avg. price tag, it is well worth the investment, and all the time you'll save going back and fourth until you're happy. JUST LISTEN TO ME, BUY THE JABRA 8040 if you are looking for a reliable, secure and clear bluetooth headset!!

Have a great day!

I would have to agree with you on almost everything. I love the 8040. It is so comfortable... it pairs up smoothly and quickly with my Q9c... I get almost all 33ft of the range advertised with little static. The people I talk to say I sound crystal clear. The functions of the earpiece are wonderful... and the call quality is overall amazingly clear. The people I talk to can't hardly hear any of the noises surrounding me...

The only gripe I have... and I dont know if i can take it much longer is: The volume is too damn low. Even with the phone volume maxed out and the 8040's volume at max too. I drive a Dodge Truck and I drive all over the country... in town I have no problem, but when i get out on the highway, even with the windows all up and the stereo down, I have the hardest time hearing the person I am talking to. The eargells are so comfortable and you barely feel this unit on your head... but if they would only seal off the canal a bit better then i would have no problems.

I dont know if you have had the same issue... but that is the ONLY thing I dont like about this peice... and due to my need for something a little louder, I'm sad to say it might have to go back to Best Buy. I just dont know what else to swap it for... I absolutely HATE over-the-ear design and will not get another one. I has to be in-ear and has to be loud.

Was going to go for a Jawbone, but the price is a little steep (have to drop ANOTHER $50 over the 8040)... had a few plantronics and Motorola units... might try a Blueant or something...

But... for those who are staying in quieter areas (again.. just so you can hear the other person...not for the call quality!)... GET THE 8040... it is great.

hmmmm. Well I will have to agree with you as far as the volume is concerned. at most times it is loud enough not to bother me, but I am in sales and traveling (highway) nearly all day everyday as well. NOW THE SOUND IS GREAT IF YOU HOLD IT FURTHER IN WITH YOUR FINGER, but that defeats the purpose right? I am thinking of investing a little more, sprint I know salws some pieces closer to 200 dollars that actually insert into the inner ear area. I hate low volume, I am already nearly half deaf from riding motorcycles as it is.

oh and just a little note... DON'T try the blue ant, it sucks. AND YOU WILL ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO WEAR THE EARHOOK WITH IT. I think the blueant actually had lower system volume then the jabra 8040.

good luck, and let me know if you find something good.

Well, just an update...

I know what you mean about holding it in. When my fiance calls me from work her office's system phones are just too quiet, but her cell phone is just fine.

I decided to keep the 8040... out of all the ones I have tried it hands down beats them all for clarity, range, and ease. I love the fact that I can take it off my ear and plug it in while on the phone. The it closes the connection and I can talk on the phone normal. (still not shutting the 8040 off) I can answer a call with the Q normally, unplug and put the 8040 back in my ear and by the time I have it situated comfortably it has already connected with the Q.

It has been 2 weeks and I haven't had to re-pair it with my phone. Not to mention how I like the double-tap redial... use that a lot!

Love it and recommend it to all. And the price is so much better...

If you guys check n the hacks section, I believe there is a registry key that you can change to boost the volume of the headset. I am on my Q at the moment so I can't link to the post; however, I did this with my Moto headset and it is load enough that I can hear the convo with the window cracked while driving.

I actually love just about everything the BT8040 offers, except that it angles in to my cheek and then the caller on the line will hear "static" that is actually the headset rubbing against my cheek. Must be the angle of my ears - I can't make it stay away from my cheek. Back it goes - darn it!
