Default Bluetooth GPS Pairing with Q9m WM6 Smartphone...

Well, I'm at my wits end with this thing and hope someone can help!!!

I have a Motorola Q9M Windows Mobile 6 Smartphone and am trying to pair a QSTarz Q818 Bluetooth GPS Receiver with it... However, the phone is not detecting it as a GPS device it's detecting it with a ? on it, and therefore will not give me the options to select com ports, etc....

I have nothing else paired with this phone, as I don't use my BT headset anymore (sound quality was terrible anyway, lol)...

Here's the steps I took to pair it so far, maybe I did something wrong (I hope!!):

Opened Bluetooth Manager
Went to Settings
Went to Menu and Paired Devices
Selected Add
Selected "iBT-GPS"
Entered the Passkey (0000)
Hit Done

Now under Paired Devices I have "iBT-GPS" with a green ? next to it. If I select it, I only have the following options:

Nickname which is a blank box, I can put anything in here, like gps, etc..
And a checkbox labeled "Connections authorized"

No matter what I do from here, I cannot select com ports, etc... It's as if the phone doesn't know what it is, etc...

If I go back to Bluetooth Manager and go to "Menu" and "Serial Ports" everything is greyed out... The GPS enters power save mode as if nothing is within range that's paired to it...

I'm hoping someone can help me, as I REALLY don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a stand alone GPS unit.

Thanks in advance!!

Also, just to make things a bit more interesting... Under Start/Settings/Connections I do NOT have Bluetooth... Not sure if that means anything, or if I ever need it, but it aint there, lol...

Thanks!

Well, it's definitely something installed or configured wrong causing the problem... I did a Master Reset and paired the GPS, installed Google Maps and it saw the device and asked for permission to use it, and map it to a port...

I REALLY don't want to reinstall and re-configure everything I have running/config'd so I'm restoring from a backup I did just before the Master Reset...

Anyone have any ideas on what might be stopping it??

Thanks,

-Corey

Me, too. I have the same problem with my Q9m, different GPS unit. I have an OnCourse Bluetooth GPS Receiver Edition 3. I am using Live Search (and have tested other GPS aware apps as well.) I know the GPS unit is functional, because it pairs and works well with another PDA running TomTom Navigator.

On the Q9M, first I paired the GPS unit:
0) turn on the GPS unit. Within the first 60 seconds,
1) Start / Bluetooth / Bluetooth Manager / Settings
2) Bluetooth On.
3) Check "Allow other Bluetooth devices to see this phone."
4) Menu / Paired Devices / Menu / Add / Menu / Show All Devices
5) Select "BT GPS V20" when it appears.
It now shows up under Paired Devices, with the green question mark on top.

The "B" displayed on the GPS unit (bluetooth) is now supposed to switch from solid blue (ready to pair) to flashing blue (paired), according to the manual. It doesn't.

I have the option to select it and check "Connections Authorized." It doesn't seem to matter if this is checked or not, it doesn't work in either case. Likewise I can give it a nickname (why on earth?) and I have tried various forms, simple names, get rid of spaces in the name, etc, but nothing makes a difference.

Now I run the navigation app, in this case Live Search. I have tried it setting it variously to Auto, Com1, all the other com ports, and GPS intermediate driver. Nothing seems to do it.

I read somewhere that sometimes it works after a hard reset. I have now done a hard reset, paired the GPS as the very first thing, then installed Live Search and tried it. Twice. Still doesn't work.

I have tried using GPSCOM.EXE and setting it to Com 1, doesn't help either.

If you've got a Q9m and know how to make this work, I would be most grateful!!

If you're on Verizon that could be your block, if not I don't know.

I have a Q9h but I have the same problem as you. When specify com1 (you go to bluetooth setting to see what's that default outbound com port configure for your bluetooth) the GPS test utility doesn't seem to connect. However, when I use Garmin Mobile XT, it does. So my advise is to use another software to confirm if you really have a problem. Also, if your software can support direct bluetooth connection (in the case of Garmin, it supports BTC port, although com port works for me too) then you can opt for this connectivity method too (what it means it will bypass the virtual com port layer)

Am on Verizon. They've clearly done something to make it hard to use external GPS (they want to flog their paid navigation service) but others have somehow gotten GPS units to work with Q9m, so mine should be able, too.

I'm having the exact same problem...My gps worked with my TOMTOM6 software but now that I've been getting the "no maps found" error. I've switched to gpsVP. Now it wont see the Oncourse gps bluetooth device. Anybody fixed this problem yet?

I had it working on my Q9m, but now it's now. I can't remember if it was working prior to upgrading the software via MSU or not, am fairly frustrated. It worked *most* of the time on my Q1.
