Wow, big brother is everywhere now. I can't believe they can get away with monitoring internet ttraffic without some sort of wiretap warrent. Essentially that is what they are trying to do, IMHO.

they will more than likely just watch for file sizes, lots of large file transfers may flag the user for further investigation. Govt. already readse mails and such.

If your not doing anything wrong then nothing to worry about. They could care less about what most people use the web for *honk honk* :-)

I suppose that is true. I am sort of a privacy advocate, and I also feel that, despite all the advertising that says otherwise, many average users still feel that there is "nothing wrong" with downloading movies, music, etc.

I think that the battle against piracy is going in the wrong direction. All the companies are going after users, and trying to scare the masses away from downloading illegal content, when really it would be better to stop attacking your customers, and try and find a way to go after the source.

As an example. When my dad first got a computer, he thought that using limewire to download MP3's was okay. He thought that by paying his internet bill every month he was paying for the content he downloaded.

But I am going to stop now before this turns into the ten page rant that I could probably make it. I guess I don't use AT&T for internet, so it doesn't directly effect me...yet

</rant>

As a side note, last week I had to reformat and reinstall on my laptop, and I am proud to say that for the first time since the early 90's, I am running absolutly nothing pirated. Everything I have installed I either bought, of found open source. I just hope that I can keep up with this trend lol.

I agree. Unless it is freeware, then the developer is entitled to compensation. If it's a 10 year old outdated program..then that's a little different. Normaly they could care less that you have it, they probable no longer support it anyway.

making the purchase price for movies and music more reasonable would go a long way to stop piracy.

i've read comcast is doing similar things to monitor people's web activities also...

they are running programs on their network which searches for people using peer to peer and bit torrent programs, and it somehow corrupts your torrent...
i dont remember the details...but that's the gist of it.
