Default Can I use the Moto Q w/plan other than PDA?

Thinking of getting a Moto Q Global and am already on cingular/At&T, but am not happy w/the pricing of the PDA plans. Am totally new to the smartphone/PDA world, so a bit clueless, but it seems like I could add MultiNet (or whatever the media plan is called on ATT) and a messaging plan and basically get the same service, except w/o push email, which I don't care about. But isn't there an issue about ATT blocking stuff? I.e., I can't order these services and use them on the Moto, I'd have to order these services for my existing phone and then put that SIM card in my Moto? Is that right? Would this work? Or is there some "locked" issue?

I don't want to pay the PDA price, esp. when I don't care about push email, but I also want my device to work!

Thanks!

Since you have ATT now, just switch phones. I switched phones about 3 weeks ago. Got a killer deal on the phone. Anyway, I just took the SIM out of the old RAZr and into the new Q9h. Started right up, works great. I just copied my outlook contacts to from desktop/Dell Axim PDA to laptop and use laptop to sync the Q. I wanted bigger phone, with outlook contacts and qwerty keyboard. I love it. I do not do email. I can do everything, via SMS/MMS and talking on a phone (no way there is an idea, use a phone for voice, LOL sarcasm) I continue with my cheap 450 Rollover and unlimited text messages( EVERYONE I talk to has ATT, so doesn't use up minutes). It does go on the internet, but I have to pay for it (per kb). I figure, I am at work, or at home, both have internet, so I don't need it on my phone yet.

I'm the Blackberry admin for my company and was recently sent a Moto Q9h free from my rep..I took my sim chip out of my BB Curve and put it in the Moto and it works fine..data.. everything..

I have BB data on my account and the data works fine..

However, with that being said..bb data works in other devices.. PDA data doesn't work in a BB, you specifically need BB Data to connect to the RIM infrastructure.

I don't think Alltel phones have a sim card slot.

If you already have the text messaging and MEdia Net plans that you like, then you will probably get away with using your current plans and SIM with a Q9h.

You shouldn't have any issues with the Internet, MMS, text, or email. In my personal experience, you can also tether it after you learn a little bit about the device and how it works.

The downside is that you won't be able to get the AT&T upgrade price for the device. You'll have to buy it somewhere other than AT&T because there's no way to use the online interface or customer service without having to get a PDA-type plan.

Alltel is CDMA so they do not use SIM chips..

The only way to get a pre-paid service to be used in a q9h, is to buy it unlocked on ebay or some other site and then put the pre-paid sim inside it.

If the device is sim locked, a pre-paid sim probably wont work.. it'll need to be unlocked.

I recently noticed that AT&T have listed the Motorola Q9 as my device on my account management pages at the AT&T site.

Since they did this, I have not been able to use the MEdiaNet button on the phone to go directly to MEdiaNet. However, once I get the message that the page is not available from my device, I can open my bookmarks and go wherever I want to go.

Cellular Video site is also no longer working, but I have no issues going to Google, Youtube, and any other media intensive sites that you could think of.

No issues yet with text, MMS, or any mail replications. Everything seems to be working 100% except the AT&T proprietary media are turned off.

The plan I am using is unlimited MEdiaNet and 1500 text, a plan originally conceived for the use of the V9 and V8 on AT&T.

I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep the Q, so I just popped the SIM in knowing that there might be issues at some point, but this is all that has been shut off so far.

Looking pretty good for keeping the Q...very impressed so far. :-)

George, change your "Connections" from <Internet> to <WAP Network> and you'll get your AT&T stuff, including MEdia Net home page etc., back.
You can then change it back to <Interent> for Opera, IE or whatever browser you prefer if you don't need AT&T links.

Can you tether without their $60 PDA plan?
