AT&T version vs. Unlocked version

I'm debating whether to go with the subsidized version from AT&T or to get an unlocked one. Does anyone know what AT&T does to their units to limit functionality? I don't think they are as bad as Verizon in this regard, but I'd be suprised if they didn't do something to the Moto firmware.

im not sure what your talking about really...
verizon Q's are not locked at all...as a matter of fact try using the MMS feature on a motoQ NOT on the vzw network

I'm not totally sure of it but a co-worker of mine said that if your phone is unlocked you can't receive images in the text messeges.

im pretty sure your coworker has no idea what they are talking about
you cant receive images in text messages (MMS) locked or unlocked on ANY network other than VZW

with at&t you can get pictures in text messages(mms) . my friends and i do it all the time. we are using at&t/cingular branded phones.

just to make sure i understand what you are saying... with the q (not verizon) you are not supposed to be able to send/recieve mms messages with pictures? because i have had different experiences with both my blackjack and my q9h.

i'm guessing this is a sprint thing because on my at&t q9h, i have several mms messages with pictures in them that a buddy sent me when he was working on putting in his in ground sprinkler system. when i open the message, the picture pops up automatically. and if you want to send an mms from the new q9h it has a box that says insert picture, where if you click on it, it brings up your "my photos" and you select a picture, and it shows up in the message even prior to sending.

this is news to me
we were under the impression that only vzw can MMS with the Q's
good to know that AT&T can join the list

currently: sprint, alltel, cricket, and any one else with a Q can not send em

Actually, yes you can. AT&T has a 300K file size limit for mms messages, so you can't send 2MP images without resizing them. I just tried both sending and receiving and it works.

that is interesting. and very dumb by those carriers. why limit the phone's capabilities? are they concerned about bandwidth issues? with evdo, it shouldn't be a problem.
