Default What should I do now?

I've been with Alltel for over a year now. I currently pay for 3 lines (all 3 are /X\ RAZRs).

The first RAZR I bought back in Summer 2006 (one of the gunmetal gray models) and then I bought the next 2 in December of 2007 (when I added the 2 extra lines). When I bought the 2 newer phones, I had one of the new ones switched to my line and the older one switched to one of the new lines. Now, I have been looking at the Moto Q and wanted to move my current RAZR to the line that has the old RAZR.

So, here's what went on. I go into the local store and they tell me they are willing to let me break contract to get a Q at $99 and change to a Smart Choice plan, but they stated they wanted to recycle the phone that I have now.

They also said that I couldn't bring the phone back in the 15 day period if I wanted to and that even if I did I couldn't get out of the Smart Choice plan. I thought that Alltel was accommodating in letting customers switch plans and phones and I'm not sure if I just caught them on a bad day or what.

I also know that the Q9C is probably going to be out after the new year, and if so, does anyone think it's worth waiting for the Q9C?

What I really want to know is has anyone else seen Alltel want to recycle their old phone? The phone I have right now is not new and has quite a bit of wear (It's a year old as it is). Can a store really keep you from returning a phone within the 15 day return period? And if I could return the phone, could they really make me keep a Smart Plan when all I would have is a RAZR?

I'm not really thinking about returning the phone before I buy it, but I have never owned a smartphone and I know I just can't tell if it will like it until I have tried it for a week or two.

i havent heard much about the Q9C for alltel so im not really sure when/if alltel will even get it. I have never taken my old phone back and they have never penalized me for it. The whole smartchoice plan you should be able to change your plan whenever you (talking to customer support is a better way to change your plan). I bought the phone retail on ebay and I just activated the phone with my current plan and added unlimited data which is a much cheaper route than the stupid smartchoice plan. If your looking at tethering alltel still tells you to go with the smartchoice plan but PDAnet is a one time fee for tethering so i wouldnt waste my money there if I was you, but I personally recommend you buy the phone retail (one bigtime fee, but atleast you cant be bound) then if you have unlimited axcess package(which you need to get on the internet) and unlimited data(internet data) your good to go unless of course you need to tether which isn't too expensive for a onetime fee compared to their $80+ smartchoice plan...i only pay (with 2 other phones) $180 but i have the nationwide plan which is the most expensive so if you basic packages you should be around $40 for your phone plus the rate of the other two phones.... hope this helps

Thanks for the info. I currently pay ~$120 for a national plan like you mentioned with 1200 minutes/month. I don't use more than ~300 minutes/month so that's one reason I was looking at maybe changing my plan, but I know $120/mo for everything that I get is pretty cheap. Having said that, I have just a couple of questions if you don't mind. Thanks for the PDANet info. The only charge I see is $35 which doesn't seem bad at all, is there another charge for it that I'm not seeing? Does Alltel charge to activate a new phone? If so, how much? The only other thing that I see on the Smart Choice plan is "Unlimited Text", but I already pay for 500 messages/mo, so is there any reason why I would need the Unlimited Text on a smart phone versus say a RAZR? I would figure most of my messages would be done through email anyhow? Adding unlimited data shouldn't change my contract term should it (ie adding to more years to my contract)? And finally, can you recommend a good place to buy an Alltel Moto Q online? Is ebay a good idea?

Well you need the unlimited text if you are going to want to get on the internet on your phone and the unlimited is just $10 a month so thats the only way it wiill affect your bill. Personally I call customer support on a seperate phone to activate a new phone because they dont charge and the sales reps do which is bs in my opinion. For some reason Alltel doesnt offer MMS on the Q I dont know why, but i think they might someday soon. I bought my Q in August on Ebay from a business called MonsterMart they sell a lot of Q's I havent had any problems and I truly love it. This is the best phone I've ever had and I definitely recommend it. I Hope I've answered your ????

Ok, thanks. So I've got my Moto Q now and the only thing that concerns me about this is the fact that I see my KB used listed on my plan.

I have heard from one Alltel rep that along with the $10 "Unlimited Axcess", I need to put on the "Unlimited Messaging" plan for $20, but I would think I would only need the $6 "Mobile Web" plan if that was true. I seem to be getting the mobile web fine without that feature.

The other Alltel rep I talked to said that all I needed to add to my plan was the $10 "Unlimited Axcess Minutes". The unlimited data shows on the plan, but the part that concerns me is the part on the "My Account" page that says "Not available on Blackberry, Smart Phones, or Data Cards.". But you would think that their system wouldn't allow that code to be on a Moto Q if that were really true.

Let me answer my own question. I called customer service and at least for me, the Unlimited Access Messaging was the same thing, so even though I show a large amount of data transfered, that all falls under the "Access Messaging" feature.

The only thing that was really concerning me was the posts from some other users on this forum and I'm guessing that they were confused on what people were adding.
