thank you sooo much!! when i recieve the phone from my boyfriend i'm going to follow your instructions and be sure to give you and update!! I don't mind looking for any of the drivers or software... just as long as i've got names and google and instructions then i should be set to go. i really appreciate it!

I posted a downloadable version of RSD lit on my site so you can download it. Also there are the drivers there as well. I do not have the Hot Sync on it yet and the RSD is 3.0, but it works just fine

Just to let everyone know I have uploaded RSD lite and a monster flash files to my site so you can get all the files there. I am still working on uploading files for a diferrent phone models, but I hope this helps for now.

I recently ran into the dreaded black screen with the firmware revision problem that others have mentioned. I went to Motorola looking for a firmware update or flash or whatever. Well....the one I found rendered my Alltel Q a Verizon! I should have paid better attention to the software but I was in a hurry and when it was done, sure enough it was a verizon phone. So... I found this thread and used RSD to push in a monster file I found for Alltel on the web. It worked fine and booted up as Alltel BUT....it has some other phone number in there it's a crazy number like 0000002801.

So... any ideas?

This was one of those Ebay specials that actually worked well for a long time. It was tethered to the laptop the other day and the battery died. When I tried to reboot it the thing was stuck in the firmware upgrade screen and that's how I arrived at this situation.

Is there a way to re-enter my telephone number (doubtful I know)? Do you guys think that the Alltel shop can reset it back to normal?

Thanks for any insight and flame me if you will. If this was a Motorola Astro two way radio I would know just what to do with the S record memory files etc... but the phones obviously have me way out of my depth.

Of course.
You need to program your number into the phone. The phone is back to the factory defaults and that number that you see is the last 4 digits of your DEC serial number. So you need to have your phone number programmed into the phone. You can do this by using a PST program. You need to do a NAM1 programming. After you have programmed the phone number into the NAM1 then you can press *228 SEND and it will put the new PRL into your phone.
You can always take your phone to Alltel store and they can do this for you, or just call them from the land line and they can run you through the programming process.

Thanks Mirzet for the reply and that's what I ended up doing today.

I went to the Alltel store and the guy said it just needed to be reprogrammed. He entered the number and it now shows my proper number in the phone's information fields. After I left the store I noticed it still said it's in roaming mode. I gave it a bit and figured it had to do some updating. It never changed. My EVdo icon is gone and it's stuck at 1X too. I called *228 to try to update the roaming. The automated voice says it's on a Verizon system. I get the automated apology saying that the phone can't be updated at this time.

So.... I went back to the store. The guy said he probably needed to force to remain on home service for a while. He punched some buttons and handed it back. He said it should be fine but I noted the loss of EVDO again. He said something about the tower possibly having problems and that was it.

I'm wondering if that monster file has changed something that rendered this phone incompatible with our local system for whatever reason.

Any ideas....? New phone time.......?

Well.... I went home and set the phone to home service myself. I did the *228 update and it said it was successful. It showed home service for a while but has since reverted back to saying Verizon on the screen. The EVDO indicator came up after the update but I can't access anything through IE.

It just times out and says "The remote party has ended this connection" on the screen.
This is nutz.......

My phone wont sync because its stuck... I can get into the files but that wont help anything will it? I need help... I just got this phone like 4 days ago... Please help!

Here is my flash files for RSD Lite including the Alltel Customer Upgrade

Moto Q

It contains the following firmwares

Alltel_Q2_C_01.0B.01I_MONSTER
Alltel_Q2_C_01.06.01I_MONSTER
_C_01.0B.00I_UPGRADE_FILE_01

Follow this guide at your own risk. I have tested and used done this actually 8 times today but flashing your phone always poses a risk and will void your warranty. My self nor EQ takes no responsibility for the danger posed.

Make sure you have a completely full battery for this process.

Place your phone into bootloader mode by holding the A and Return/Enter Key while pressing the END/Power button.

Start RSD Lite and connect your phone.

It will should look similar to this.

Now browse to any one of the monster packs
either
Alltel_Q2_C_01.0B.01I_MONSTER.shx
or
Alltel_Q2_C_01.06.01I_MONSTER

It will take awhile. Be sure not to disconnect your phone. The best thing to do is sit back and smoke a cigarette and leave your PC alone.

Sometimes this process fails if so just remove your battery and start it up again in bootloader and flash it again with the upgrade file.

Remember flashing your phone will erase all data and restore it to default factory settings. You will need to reactivate your phone by dialing *228 option 2 and option 3.
