Default Need advice

In order to stroke my alltel rep, i agreed to try a data plan with a data card cause he begged me to. must be bonus time for data plans i guess. so i got my data card and installed it and it just fu*&*&ing sucked!! I did a speed test from speakeasy.net and had 109 kbs down and 30 up!!! Just awful!! I was assured evdo will be arriving in november for the northern plains region (fargo north dakota and points south) well, I travel alot so i thought having a data card would be cool in case im in a hotel without wi fi. then i saw this plan charges 60 bucks a month for unlimited data!!! wtf are they smoking!!!! Hello!! I already have an unlimited data plan with my Q!! Cant i just download pda net and use my q for a modem in case im in a hotel without wi fi?? THis should work but i seek this forums wise guidance to make sure i'm not missing something. is there a penalty for using too much data? i think only verizon does the penalty thing. O wise forum members gimme a shout! THanks for the help!

U have to find pdanet. that is the name of the software. pda.net is a website i'm not familliar with. I went to download.com and typed in pdanet in the search box. download the windows mobile version of course v1.78 or something like that. Then just follow the instructions after download. it is very easy and user friendly. U download, then are propted to install on you pc. after that u install the cab file on your phone, then hit connect and boom! very easy and takes less than 5 min. hope this helps!!

How would they know? To Alltel, data usage is data usage. I use Linux wvdial through the usb connection on my Q and on my RAZR before that. I haven't seen any charges like that.

I would also recommend against any proprietary third party utility software to use your data connection. These functions are already built into the phone and into any modern OS.

well i dont know about you all, but on my bill there is a 10 dollar "tethering" charge for unlimited data use while using the phone as a modem. its a 10 dollar charge for the whole month, i asked a technician about it. When i first got my phone, the charge was pro rated because it was in the middle of the month, so it was only like 4 or 5 dollars. Either i'm getting screwed out of 10 dollars or you all are missing something on your bills
