I have drudged through the plans trying to work it out but for some reason my eyes start to hurt (I blame the blonde guy on the website) and I just stop caring. It's easier to pay the bill than to figure out if you are getting scrwed. | I'm in the exact same boat as you Llama, only 4 instead of 3 non-smartphones and my bill is about $200 a month. everything else is the same. And you are most certainly right, They make the plans confusing on purpose, Its probably like that with every provider, but it seems especially bad with Alltel |

| I know this is an old thread, but I have been reading.... I am using a Moto Q that I bought on eBay with my Alltel Family 900 plan. (I do not have any kind of data plan) I never intended to use data, but one night decided to try it. The next month when I got my bill I had NO data charges, but simply got charged for minutes when I used the data. (it shows up on the bill as DATA 1X/DO) 3 months later I have been using data off and on, and have never been charged for anything but minutes. (one catch, I have to use the wireless manager to shut off the transmitter in order to disconnect, otherwise my phone will keep trying to send and receive data, using up my minutes.)
My question is: am I somehow cheating the system here, and will I get caught eventually? Or can I keep using the internet as long as I have minutes? Again, I never intended to use data on the Q, but if they aren't going to charge me per KB then I'm going to keep using it. |

All Acxess Pass = $19.99
Acxess Minutes = $9.99
Total = $70.00

| i see you do exactly what i am hoping to do whenever i get my q shipped to me from ebay. i just want to add it as a phone and not have to add a data plan or whatever. i dont want to go into the store (the lady there told me i couldnt use a q without having a smartphone plan but i didnt believe here). should i just call alltel and give them the ESN? i really hope they activate it with out any problems. im more confident of this after reading a few of your posts, thanks... yeah you should have no problem hooking up your Q When i got mine i did go in to the store, because i did not know how to program the sid and the npa and nxx # and i had not worked for alltel for about a 1yr and half so i was a little rusty, but you can call in, i would call tech support and tell them you need to switch the esn on your account, and tell them that you want to make sure the phones programed correctly. Honestly though i think the new system alltel uses pushes the number through to the phone once the esn is chaged. at least thats what one of my old buddies told me. if your not confident with calling in go to the store, just go to a different one. if they look at your account and say that you have to have it tell them no you don't and they do not have permission to change your plan what so ever. if the question you just say you paid full price for the phone and that how you were able to avoid contracts and rate plan changes.
half the people in the stores are retards any ways. i was able to get my ebay purchased Q replaced 3 times under alltels warrenty exchange program. because they used my esn date change as my proof of purchase date. its true that i had the phone for less then a year, but if they would have dug alittle further they would have seen i never purchased it from them.
any ways i digress i wouldn't worry about the rate plan thing walk in confidently and just don't take no for an answer. I've been useing my Q without their smart chocie plan for close to a year now and so has my wife, and the plan i'm on is about 4yr old. go figure.
let me know how it works out

| so i got my q set up with my number and seems to be working great. tech support just switched my # over to it no prob. now i am wondering if there is anything i need to turn off on my phone so i dont happen to get charged for data sent/received with my knowing it. are there settings i need to change? im not going to try and use the internet feature on it until the end of my billing cycle to check and see if i am getting charged for it or if it just counts as minutes. if anybody had any tips for me, let me know. new to the Q, so help a brotha out...thanks.
